I think it's up their, if you thought this fight sucked Idk what's your problem. Really showed two of the best stand up fighters in MMA today go at it with the science of striking. They both were trying to win the fight, well... I don't know about Machida but It was a great fight.
I gave it to Shogun but It was close, I guess.
I'm not sure if it was Fight of the Year, I still got Nog vs Couture but It's up their. I just don't understand how people were putting this fight down.

I thought this fight was great. Regardless though, the fight doesn't end until the judges cards are in, and what should have been one of the best upsets in years got chumped.

For me it wasn't. I'm a Machida fan and was waiting for a great Ko, in the end for me personally i had it 4 rounds to 1, and even that round had Shogun doing enough. I personally don't see how it was close.
Nog/Couture is the tops for me so far. That was a great fight.

I had it 4 rounds to 1 too but they were close rounds.
Nog vs Couture had it all though, great ground game. I think Nog went from bottom guard to full mount like 3 times in the fight, that was good stuff.
I didn't order it though, I seen it on this crappy website in poor conditions, can't wait till they show it on Spike.

i think a fight with all rounds going even would get my vote for it but I cant really think of any. Couture vs Nog IMO was quite one sided.

As fun as all other fights are, nothing stood out more than "Guida surviving a head kick by Sanchez" battle.
That battle was a bloody mess.

I was gonna vote for nog v couture because that was a classic but sanchez v guida was the best fight of the year by far.

yes hard to vote agains Sanchez vs. Guida.
I remember an interview after a fight earlier that night saying "if this doesn't get fight of the night, something is wrong", and I was thinking the same thing.
Now, I can't even remember that fight or who was in it. Sanchez vs. Guida was that good.

I don't think this fight is even in contention for FOTY. I was excited watching it but even before it was over I wasn't that impressed with it and now that I've watched it a few times it is even less impressive. There wasn't enough action to be considered for this honour, neither fighter took any risks to try and finish. No ground fighting, no take downs and not very many clean shots. I wouldn't give that award to a fight just because it was almost too close to call.

Yeah I was close to putting that fight as an option but it was between that and Other... If Faber hadn't broken his hand that fight would have been great but it seemed that once he broke his hand he was just waiting for the fight to be over, he knew he was going to lose, but those were some nice elbows.

Nog/Randy hands down it had it all
the build up of these 2 legends who never met one was in pride one was in ufc
it was a battle on the feet and on the ground we saw knockdowns/sub attempts/sweeps/gnp/wrestling/etc.

Machida/Shogun was a good fight only because it showed that Machida wasn't the super human all his nuthuggers were saying. It was very close but, if the judges weren't going to give it to Shogun it should have been declared a draw. Way too much typical back pedaling from Machida & both fighters had way too much respect for each other to serriously go for the kill for more than a second or two at a time. Randy/Nog. was my favorite this year & IMO one of the best fights in MMA history but, I'm a big fan of both fighters.

It was okay, but probably not even a top 10 fight of the year.
It has absolutely nothing on Sanchez vs. Guida or Couture vs. Nog, and there are a bunch of other fights that were much better. From that list, I'd put Henderson vs. Cerrone and Torres vs. Mizugaki ahead of it as well.

Couture vs Nog was an AMAZING fight to watch, and TONS of technical skills being displayed throughout a 3 round war, which makes my vote very tough to make. Sanchez vs Guida was also another AMAZING fight, with lots of great skills being displayed, and non-stop action throughout their battle as well.
IMO, Machida vs Shogun lacked a lot of both of these. There was some technical skills being displayed, but nowhere near the amount that we saw in the Nog vs Couture fight. There was a little action on the feet, but really nothing compared to the Guida vs Sanchez fight.
So, from my top 2 picks, I had to go with Guida vs Sanchez. Just 3 rounds of insane exchanges, both fighters really giving it their all, and all in all, was quite an exciting fight to watch, no matter what kind of fan you are. Couture vs Nog is EASILY a close 2nd though, for all of its technical fighting, and Nog really showing that he has it still.

Couture vs Nog was the best fight this year. I wish they made it 5 round instead of 3.
