I wouldn't go that far. Jake Shields was better than Mayhem one night a couple weeks ago. Mayhem is the more well rounded fighter by far.

Maybe more well rounderd, by Shields was the smaller fighter and still won. His skills beat Mayhem, and Mayhem knew exactly what to expect but still couldn't stop it. He didn't really do any damage to Shields either.

I actually think mayhem would take the fight in a second match. Clearly Shields had ZERO offense besides holding him down, no submission attempts, no striking, nothing. Although it's a no brainer he won the fight, i'd still say mayhem is the better fighter. He outclassed him on the feet and almost submitted the guy.

I think Mayhem COULD take the fight, but he had 25 minutes to take Shields out and he didn't. Paul Daley was able to sprawl and stuff a takedown or two of Shields, but Mayhem, the larger fighter, was incapable. Mayhem was tooling Shields in the striking, but he seemed to want to be taken down and laid on.
He proved that he COULD take the fight, he came within seconds of submitting him. If Mayhem was a little less aggressive in the striking and stopped some takedowns, he could easily win a second fight. He was just way to willing to get put on his back. With the current judging critera you can't let guys take you down just because they can't do anything once it goes there.

No Shields did not say it, just my attempt at humor, I just put it in quotes, I didnt want to actually put Shields name for fear of frauding. But yes, Shields was the only one saved by the bell, my friends still think Im phyco as I screamed at the tv as loud as I could while he was choking him out

I can't believe people post s--- without knowing that of which they speak. Do a little research, the information is easy to find. Shields has 13 Top 20-30 wins and 6 Top 10 wins, fighting in 2 weight classes. Miller nowhere near, so far back not funny. Last week looked up records for Swick and Hardy, they have 2 Top 20-30 wins each and NO top 10 wins now Hardy has one more win and will be fighting GSP, OH what competition.
Shields is fighting bigger more highly ranked MW's because of the strong MW division in SF and the Weak division at WW. He could look like KING KONG fighting the welterweights in SF, but prefers real competition that involves real risk.
