Rosencrantz:
I've assorted all those who participate in MMA into a hierarchy. It is as follows:
1. Fans- The $$$ of the fans drives the sport, without them the sport simply could not be. They are the sine qua non of MMA.
2. Dana White/Promoters- Without Dana and the promoters successfully running these business, fighters couldn't be employed, their abilities would go to waste in bars, clubs, and airport security.
3. Fighters- Without the fighters how could there be a sport?
4. Trainers/Coaches- They are important no doubt but its the fighters who actually get in there and do all the work.
5. The media- MMA writers are a truly pathetic lot as are all sports writers if you think about it. They only pester the fighters with interviews and questions. They infringe upon the purity of the sport and it's partially their fault that Diaz vs. GSP isn't happening; there is nothing more pointless, pathetic, and miserable than the MMA media (and I bet 80% of the people who "write" about the sport don't even train, explain that one to me.)
So what do you all think?

MMA junkie has one of the best in John Morgan.
It's somewhat of a glib perspective because at the very least MMA journalism has come a long way since the days when Sherdog ruled. When you see articles on fight paths, medical perspective, etc on MMA junkie, they usually have less than 30 posts, where as a smack talking article will have 100+ responses.
There's not a lot of money in MMA journalism(pre FOX) so only a few sights can have quality writers.

Ahh but you fail to interpret the rest of the post! Yes the media are a loathsome group but you must also understand that the MMA fan is as much a god as the mma fighter, he/she just doesn't know it!
Who would the fighters be without the fans to idolize and worship them? Naught but broken, sad men who spent their lives beating up troublemakers (or making trouble themselves) at titty bars across the country only to die battered and nameless.

Rosencrantz: Some solid points, I'll admit, but what % of MMA fans know Morgan let alone LOVE him? Not to be "glib" as you said, but I bet that all MMA writers were to sad, unfit, untalented, etc. to be MMA FIGHTERS so they were forced to become MMA writers.
Even if this isn't true, they are more or less a waste since all they do is annoy the s--- out of the fighters. Even GSP said he despises the media. They are nothing but worms in his eyes. Is he right? I love the articles on Junkie and hate sites like BR and BE but I can't help but think the media is ultimately bad.

Rosencrantz: Exception to the rule and not really a writer like Morgan is. Ariel is more of a broadcast guy/interviewer.

I'm interested to see the next generation of trainers and coaches. All the top teams right now will likely be surpassed by new trainers and it will be interesting to see what's next.
With Tompkins passing, i wonder where the next striking coaches will come from. with less career boxing coaches and more streamlined striking, i wonder if we'll lose 5-6 strike combinations all together.

Okay. I only go the Junkie, so i can't really debate.
But you're a little off in your perspective of MMA writers needing to be athletes. It would be better if there were proper writers who can write proper articles. Fighters blog all the time. Doesn't mean they write good because they're fighters.
