As any one who doesn't know by now I work with Defense Travel System and deal with military members and GS personnel on a daily basis...
Talk about over spending and I have to vent..
I had a person the other day going on a " Deployment" to Bahrain where as part of said deployment they are being furnished an apartment for the 3 months they are their as well as 124.00 a day in food...
124.00 x 90 days which means over the course of 90 days of this deployment this person is going to get over 11,000 for FOOD in 3 months.. hell even the Duggards don't eat that much in 3 months and the worst part is there are commisaries and places out there to where he doesn't have to eat out every day..talk about GOVT waste but it could also be that I am jealous but still uncool

If that's what I signed up for then yes. If I signed up knowing I'd get per diem and they weren't paying it then I'd reconsider. But when I take a job, I take it knowing wether I'll be underpaid or adequately compensated from the get go.
There's a lot worse places to be then Bahrain.

The hotel I work at is right by FLETC which is one of the training facilities for most of the different federal agencies. We have had numerous people from there staying here for 3-9 months at a time at a rate of 112-136 a night. I have no clue what stipend they have per day but I can't imagine it is all that small.

When you have to think that probably thousands of people go TDY or to conferences or a " deployment" each week that if they took a realistic look at what the actual per diem rate should be your probably looking at major money

Sure to you or me... The problem with over spending isn't in the millions or even tens of millions. It is in he multi hundred millions. I am sure this all falls under defense, so it could be a place to start for sure... But would.make little difference on the whole.
I am not saying it isn't BS, it is for sure... But it could be contract issue as well.

When I did a fair amount of business travel, we had a budget of $40 per meal, max, and had to show receipts.
In places like San Francisco, that doesn't go too far.
But in Brazil, it's a fortune.

Technically it" does" BUT the way around it is to use the GOVCC they give you or your personal to withdraw from an ATM so they can't track it
