NBC will finally made its foray into the world of mixed martial arts in September when it airs its Ultimate Women Challenge MMA reality show.
The show, which was originally scheduled to run last fall, will be hosted by Bas Rutten and model and Dancing with the Stars competitor Joanna Krupa and will feature some new and some recognizable faces in female MMA including Jackson's MMA product Julie Kedzie and American Top Team trained fighter Jessica Aguilar.
Here are the participants:
Air dates of the show and and its time slot have yet to be announced by NBC, leading me to believe it isn't a lock for the fall, despite the website's statement claiming otherwise.
This wouldn't be the first time NBC passed on MMA programming at the eleventh hour. Last year, Strikeforce was already planning out a weekly show for the network when negotiations broke off and never resumed.
Hopefully the show makes it to air and the ratings prompt NBC president and CEO Jeff Zucker to negotiate a deal with the UFC. He may have to talk to Dana and Co. if he doesn't want to be sued for using the word "Ultimate" in the show's name, especially when it refers to an MMA-related product. I'm pretty sure Zuffa lawyers will slap an injunction on NBC pretty quickly once they catch wind of their TUF-facimile.

Idk I dont think they could proclam the word Ultimate they just need to put it in diffrent wording i would asume. How about something like Women Cage Fighter or Women's Cage Fighting.

YES!!! I can't wait for this, Hope it dosen't fall through the cracks. All the chics look hot or at least average so hopefully the tallent is there. I wouldn't put it past Dana to shoot himself in the foot by trying to sue NBC over the word "Ultimate", which has been around many years longer than the UFC. NBC can afford to stand up to Dana & a lawsuit will just create enemies at NBC, even if Dana wins it.

In this country whoever has the best lawyer wins. I'm not sure if ZUFFA has a monopoly on the word "Ultimate" "Fighting" or "Championship". I think it's how you combine the words that make the case but, I could be wrong. The fact that the UFC has never had a womens fight ever is a plus for NBC in a lawsuit & unless ZUFFA has a monopoly on the word "Ultimate", I think NBC comes out on top if they think it's worth fighting over & don't drop the show.

Uhm, yeah....how 'bout no? I guess there is some entertainment value in this but I don't see this being a meal ticket for NBC or any of the girls either (sadly)

In most cases yes........but when you are doing a reality show about fighters and there has already been one with like 12 seasons called "the Ultimate fighter" i don't think it will be aloud.
Plus it might not even be a Zuffa issue as much of a Spike TV issue.

It's not so much that it's a monopoly but has more to do with association. I think if you mention the "ultimate" in the context of fighting and MMA, the UFC is the one most often associated. I don't think it would be hard for Zuffa's lawyers to establish that there is a link between the two, and that the title "Ultimate Women's Challenge" is trying to capitalize on the UFC's brand without permission.

It's really all about the fights, if the fights are good the show will do well. A passionate lesbian kiss at some point back at the house will sky rocket the rateings as well but, the fights should be enough.
