Italy suspends free movement agreement with Spain over Ceuta migrant crisis

Italy announced it is suspending agreements with Spain under the Schengen Agreement, which allows free movement between 29 European Union countries that signed it without passport controls. The decision was made after about 60,000 illegal migrants infiltrated from Morocco into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta in North Africa. Although Italy does not share a land border with Spain, the decision will affect those traveling between the countries by plane or ship. The Italian Interior Ministry also announced that it was agreed to strengthen the border with France.


Spain: At least 48,000 migrants returned from Ceuta to Morocco

Spain's Interior Ministry reported that at least 48,300 migrants have returned to Morocco after illegally entering the Spanish enclave of Ceuta in North Africa. In total, Spain estimated that approximately 60,000 people infiltrated from Morocco in recent days.
