I think all the stations out here went to drones for the vast majority of their coverage.
I used to see ABC and NBC Chicago choppers in my area every once in awhile (at least once winter when the mall traffic backed up the tollways)... never see them anymore.
I wouldn't be surprised if they still had a chopper for coverage of places where drones aren't permitted... like if shit went down near O'Hare airport, FAA doesn't let drones in that airspace.
For most traffic coverage it's unmanned drones now.
(Chicago also banned police chases, and that was always a go-to for chopper coverage from a high distance)

Your local news has to be dominated by stories out of Columbus though, right?
I'll have the 'local news' on as background noise from time to time, but 90%+ of the stories are coming from Chicago and suburbs that are 10+ miles away from me.
When my suburb is mentioned it's typically for a traffic accident or some kind of data center deal our officials struck.

I don't know but I assume so. They definitely aren't talking about the city/suburb I live in. In a city of about 50K, we get maybe 2-3 murders per decade here.
2020: 0 murders
2021: 0 murders
2022: 0 murders
2023: 2 murders (anomaly due to a double murder & suicide in a family home; some psycho Indian guy wasted his wife and son)
2024: 0 murders
2025: 0 murders
So, yes, I think it's safe to assume that local news would be about Columbus bullshit that I don't really care about.
