I always look at potential personnel losses to decide how the Steelers may do the following year...especially important this year as they try to defend. Their key people are locked up so they probably won't have any devastating losses -- Big Ben, Ward, Holmes, the running backs, Troy, Harrison. A cnnsi article has some good thoughts about both SB teams.
Nate Washington is at risk as our number 3 guy, some team may come after him and Steelers may let him go rather than pay another receiver the big money, just like they did with Randle-El and Burress. Limus Sweed had some drops late in the year, but redeemed himself with some big hits, if it comes down to a big money demand from Nate they may gamble and make Sweed #3.
McFadden is a key cornerback, and I think the Steelers would like to hang onto that #1 passing defense which is so valuable in today's NFL. So if it as either/or situation between him and Nate because of salary cap, Steelers probably keep McFadden.
Offensive line are all either restricted or unrestricted free agents. But this is where Steelers need to make the most changes anyway.
Leftwich may leave if he can get a starting job somewhere. You figure big hits from retirement will be guys like Ward and LeBeau eventually, but I see no signs that either of them are going anywhere right away.
So, looking at that list, it appears the Super Bowl winning team will still be largely in place next year, with hopefully some improvements to O-line.

Just thought I'd say how impressed I was with that kid in the Ravens game after he made that big drop. He could've curled up in the fetal position, but he went back out there and played great away from the ball the rest of the way. Even made a few catches, I think.
As for next year, I'll favor Patriots v Giants II at this point.

as of right now, i don't see this team making many major changes anytime soon. they should be the same team next year and with an easier schedule.

cowboys vs steelers, with the Boys coming out on top....that would be a nice way to break in our new stadium.

Get rid of T.O. and you might have a chance, that guy has destroyed your locker room and coaching staff.

The thing people dont get though with him, is at least before you'd have the production along with the baggage. At 35 his production is getting less & less, but as that happens he will get louder & louder and become more of a distraction.

Steelers with Sweed as their #3 would actually be a better team. Sweed is very young and needs to fix those issues with drops, but he has shown he has the speed to break away and he has the size to easily be the best receiver on the steelers with a few more years expereience.
Some key defensive players we need to hold onto are Lamarr Woodley & Lawrence Timmons.. We need that great backup LBer in case one goes down for a play/quarter/game/games. All the other big names are obvious locks with Harrison, Farrior, Polamalu, Hampton, Smith all being signed.
As for the offense, I think our line did a lot better this year than last... Willi Colon could be replaced with a smarter player who doesn't commit so many penalties. We have three good RB options with Mendenhall coming back healthy, and a pretty good full back in russel.
We have two great tight-ends, and it doesn't look like any of our coaching staff is in jeopardy. we know the two coaches who matter most are ok.
My only hesitation to pick the steelers to the SB again is their 8-8 season after the last win. I think with our defense being what it is, we should be back in the big game for sure... we'll have to wait & see.
My prediction.
Steelers vs Falcons.

They are the best team in the NFC offensivley IMO. If they can get some work done defensively, they will make the playoffs and I think they make a strong run at the SB with a 2nd year Matt Ryan.
Michael Turner, Matt Ryan, Roddy White, etc.. They look good to me.

thats all true, but now everyone is ready for them and will be perparied to play them.. Also the had one of the easiest schedules in the league, which will certainly bump up in compition. Dont forget, the Panthers are going to be strong next year as are the bucs. And if you look in the NFC east all four of those teams have a shot at the playoffs. Cardinals or the 49ers will win there division, and the Vikings or the Bears will win theres, so really they are the 3rd best team in there division and behind 10 teams in the NFC if you think about it. Thats just my opinion though.

I agree the Panthers will be strong, I just dont think Delhomme can get them to the SB.. (Never had faith in him) The bucs are good but I think they ruined their chances when they got rid of Gruden.. NFC east is always a contender but I put the falcons on the upset of whichever of their teams makes the NFC title game. Cards are a good choice, but I see them having a lot of trouble defensively next year, and with their O-coordinator going to be gone most likely they may not be AS GOOD offensively (though they may just be better, so who knows.) Vikings are kinda my 2nd fav team but they just need a QB to make it the whole way... They cant do it with Ferrote or jackson.. Bears i think are getting too old defensively and don't have enough talent on offense, plus devin hester was basically invincible this year and he was a huge reason why they made the big game a few years back.
For the most part, all of your picks are pretty good ones, and I don't disagree... I'm kinda picking the falcons as the cinderalla story because its been so popular in the last few years with the 6th seeds winning and teams who had horrible second halfs making it deep in the playoffs.
Hell, this year I picked Dallas vs Jacksonville before the season started, and neither team even made the playoffs!
