Why? Does anyone know why the UFC brass does virtually no promotional stuff for this guy, they stick him on the prelims almost every time and they refuse to even talk about him in the title picture. He is 7-1 in the UFC with wins over Belcher,Swick, Tanner,McDonald and Lister to name a few and his only loss is to Franklin and that was a decision. Now I'm not an Okami fan or anything but he just seems to be getting a raw deal. I was wondering if anyone had an inside scoop as to why this has been happening. Other than the fact that his fights aren't the most exciting.

I dont get it but I say he will break the record for the most straight wins before he gets a title shot..The UFC should give him a title shot or wait until his contract ends and they might just cut him really..Who knows?

Okami lost to the only contender level fighter he has faced, Rich Franklin. Since then, he has gotten a title shot, but ended up getting injured before it happened. Also, new contenders have emerged. While Okami went to a decision with McDonald, Gouveia and Quarry pummeled McDonald to TKOs and Maia subbed McDonald. Then Marquardt pummeled Gouveia and Okami participated in one of the most boring fights in the history of the UFC against Lister. There is no way Okami is higher on the ladder than any of the contenders at MW, including Gouveia, Marquardt, Maia. If he gets through Sonnen, he can start to be talked about in the context of title contention, but he needs to put on an impressive showing.

He can't stay healthy...every time you look around he's injured.

Look i get the sympathy for Okami, but the bottom line with him is he doesn't light up a crowd...he's not a finisher he mostly wins by decision...when the UFC gave him a Main Event at 72 vs Franklin he pretty much layed an egg...He knocked out the 2008 version of Evan Tanner, he TKO'd Kalib Starnes, whoop di doo, and he got a Sub, on Rory Singer, and beating Rory doesn't quite put you in the elite, other than that he's been Decision-City, not to mention he seems to always break something while training having to postpone fights... I'm not hating on the guy is do think he's good, and he's no-way a prelim fighter but, this outcry of people thinking he's somehow being robbed of a title shot is kinda a stretch... for me he needs to finish a few fights with Top 5 opponents to be considered the real deal, and i'm not say'n he can't, its just so far he hasn't....have him go finish Cheal Sonnen, then people can talk !

I think it's because he doesn't consistantly finish fights. I'm a huge Okami fan, he's one of my favorite fighters actually. But that's the whole reason I think as to why he keeps getting put on the back burner. That, and the fact that lately he can't seem to stay healthy.

He was supposed to fight for the title, but got injured. He hasn't been able to get many fans either. He is a fairly boring fighter. I'm not trying to downplay his skill. He is a very skilled fighter and he deserves a title shot for sure, but as we all know the UFC is a business.

Okami is one of my favorites but him not getting spotlight is just bad luck, he gets hurt alot. Though a win over Sonnen will throw him right back in the contender range, to fight possibly Vitor or maybe the winner of Maia/Marquart.

Okami can be rather boring for the casual fan. His fight versus Lister was one of the worst in recent memory and I can see why the UFC doesn't want him going for the title.

Yes, I agree with a lot of you.
First and most important, he's been on the injured list a couple of times.
He's also very consistent with being a counter-attacker and doesn't really "go for broke".
However, I agree with him being on the undercard with Sonnen. If he beats him, I say put him against somebody along the lines of Belfort, Bisping, Henderson, Marquardt, Maia or Wanderlei. Perhaps the loser of the Nate/Demian fight. That would be good enough for the first fight on a main card and good enough opponent to start putting him on the map once again.
Doubt he'll ever fight Anderson though. After Henderson, he's got 2 fights left. If he beats Dan again, the P4P king has gotta go out in style! Perhaps GSP or another 205er. Maybe even a heavyweight bout? Maybe the winner of Maia/Marquardt could be in there? Belfort? Who knows! Just hope after the whole Roy Jones Jr. BS, he'll come back to UFC and keep making his legacy even THAT MUCH MORE glamorous!
Anyway, if Yushin keeps winning, his time will come.

What really suprise me is that Okami not complaing about being on the under card over and over. Maybe he doesnt want to fight AS.

I think Okami understand the situation, he knows he had a chance and lost it, and now he just has to put together enough wins to be reconsidered. The divison has gotten deeper in talent since he was offered a shot, so now he has to work for rather then being the last man standing.

As a good business man could you please explain why putting Yushin Okami and Sonnen on the main card makes sense.
That fight has boring wrestlers duking it out written all over it.
I personally enjoy watching most his fights (outside the franklin fight).
Okami has fought like once in the last 17 months and by the time the fight takes place it will be once in the last 19 months.

Fitch won eight fights in row before getting a title shot, I think five or so where on the undercard.

He's in the old Machida boat now. I guess you gotta knock some heads off (or beat someone Dana White hates) to get in the spotlight.
