Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira would be the first to admit that his landslide loss to Cain Velasquez at UFC 110 was devastating, but he has already moved on and hopes to get back into the Octagon with Frank Mir soon.
Obviously, Mir's immediate future is booked with a bout against Shane Carwin at UFC 111 on March 27th, but Nogueira would love an opportunity to avenge his UFC 92 loss to the former champion.
"Depending on the result of Frank Mir vs. Shane Carwin fight, we'd [like] to have a rematch with Frank Mir," Nogueira's manager Ed Soares told TATAME.
It should be noted this isn't the same Mir that Big Nog fought over a year ago that's meeting Carwin in a couple of weeks. Mir has concentrated on adding mass to his frame and is significantly bigger and stronger than when he was trounced by champion Brock Lesnar at UFC 100 last July.
It was Velasquez's speed and technique that was Nogueira's ultimate undoing. Mir has similar technique when it comes to boxing, but doesn't nearly have the same quickness as the American Kickboxing Academy-trained fighter.
Many were wondering why Nogueira looked sluggish prior to being stopped by Mir for the first time in his career. Following the loss, reports surfaced that the Brazilian had actually suffered from a staph infection leading up to the bout.

I'd really like to see Mir smash Nog again so that the excuses could fly that Nog was too old and it was again just a fluke. Mir whooped Nog's *** staph or not. I think to continue to try and discredit that victory is bulls---.
Even leading up to the Cain fight, on the countdown Dana is shown saying that Nog is known for being unable to be stopped. Staright bulls---, if Nog was not in fighting shape due to an illness, he should never have stepped in the cage. He did, and got his *** handed to him. When has Nog looked good since then ? Fighting an old and ailing Couture ? Nog has been punch drunk too many times in his career and should just hang them up before he gets another severe beating.

This would be pointless match, Nog isnt on the same level anymore he used to be, and I know someone will say now that this is MMA and anything can happen, but why would Nog get rewarded fight with Mir when Mir is on the uphill, and Nog has loss in his back now, It wasnt close fight Nog was dominated, even if Mir loses, I would say he is still "higher" since he lost a fight for #1 contender spot, Nog lost a middlecast fight himself, Nog should take on Crocop, and the loser has to go to SF.

I want to see the rematch because I'd love to see these two on the ground, but even in a rematch I see Mir keeping it standing and repeating the last fight.

Nog doesn't have it anymore. I love watching him fight but he will be owned by top heavy weights. Nog should just put on fun exciting fights against mid tier fighters. Nog v CroCop II anyone?

It's funny how Soares thinks Nog deserves a shot at Mir, but nobody ever deserves a shot at Anderson. Oh the difference in standards.

Carwin and Mir v 3.0 seem to have the proper size.

I think it's pretty obvious he means if Mir loses the fight against Carwin, because we know what's next for Mir if he wins.
And if he loses, why wouldn't Nog deserve a shot at him?

I think that JDS should be next for Mir if he loses to Carwin. Give Big Nog someone like Kongo, or Struve to get a W, get some confidence back. Also, gets time to get the title picture cleaned up a bit in the HW division.

too bad what nog needs is not confidence, but a new body and chin, that will do for him....

Well, we know Nog isn't getting any younger (he already looks 10yrs older then what he is), but there is nothing wrong with a tune-up fight.

Mir, should he lose his fight with Carwin, should fight the loser of the fight between Cain and JDS for the next shot at the title. Nogeira should face Kongo

This is exactly why I created a thread on Soares but mine was speaking positive on Soares behalf but I've always thought his reasoning is a bit foolish at times! He does look out for the best interest of his fighters, none the less, whether u like him or not!

should Big Nog just slim down to 205? I normally wouldn't say fighters should cut weight or anything but Little Nog makes weight fine and they are identical twins right?

Nog's saving grace was always his chin, but that seems to have left him. At this point, he should either concentrate on coaching / training other fighters, or act as a gatekeeper / benchmark for up and coming HWs.
