Poker & Parlays

Things can get out of hand quickly on a cash table lol.
i had the opposite problem with poker.
I would instead of getting back in again rather want to get it all over with the second i got lucked out by an idiot xD
If i lost a big chunk i usually went all in until it was over so could start playing something else (at home.. never went to a casino to play)
Was way too emotional for poker

It also makes them last for damn ever. This tourney even had a pretty aggressive blind structure early, but it still took me 8 hours of playing before getting knocked out in the money, and barely in the money at that (they paid 18 spots total). So the remaining players weren't even at the final table yet. I'm not sure how much longer it took after that, but I read this morning the last five players agreed on a five-way even chop.
at this point it becomes a bad paid job

As long as everyone has relatively equal stacks, the last 4 or 5 players always wind up chopping unless someone is being a dick. At least every time I've made it that far that has been the case. It is usually the small stack that is the first to suggest it lol. One time I was playing and it was down to the last 5... the guy in 5th had like 3 BBs left and he kept asking... Chop?... Chop?? .... Chop??? after every hand. The whole table ignored him except the big stack on the table immediately said nope every time. 2 hands later the little guy gets KO'd and before he even could stand up, Mr big stack looks at the 3 of us left and says 'Chop?' Hahahaha... it was great.

I think I cashed like $900 on that 4-way chop that night on the $60 buy in.

That is why I only played one tournament in my life, lost very, very quickly, and now only play craps, roulette, or slots.
Craps.... shit. I learned to play craps on my honeymoon cruise. Never played it before then. I won $1,300 playing on that boat... there was one old guy that was absolute fire with the dice. He won me so much money hitting his points. Every time I seen him on the table I jumped on and won every time. It was so bad the boat shut down the craps table halfway through the cruise lol.

After that? It's been a complete bloodbath on every craps table I've hit lolol. So now avoid craps. But that was one fun cruise.

All of those are horrible to me. The player has zero control (other than maybe avoiding the worst of the many sucker bets on craps), and the house edge rapes you over time. Might as well bet your buddy on a coin toss.
Craps can play pretty even if you avoid the dumb bets like you say. But then it is no fun lol. Just playing the point is boring. But if you don't play that way, you can have big swings in both directions really quickly on craps. Usually in the down direction. Sometimes if I have some money I don't mind burning craps can be fun because there is potential for a good run there. But it's been way more down runs than up runs so it's best to avoid.

Slots I usually play just to kill time when the other games are kicking my ass lol. I don't play any high limit slots. Roulette I absolutely hate. Similar to craps you can just bet red and black and be relatively safe but that's basically betting on a coin flip. That's no fun. All the other bets are bad bets IMO.

Even with a red/black roulette bet, the house still has an edge of over 5%. That's quite significant, guaranteeing a loss in the long term. Blackjack played with standard strategy (without counting), for example, has a house edge less than a fifth of that. And at least you get to do something instead of sitting there looking a wheel.

For as much as I gamble, the "house edge" matters not, so I would participate once or twice in random coin toss bets.

Never understood the "thrill" of gambling. I do it on cruises when I am bored once a year for a few hours. Take $250. Usually lose half to all and get a good discount on the next cruise because I rotate about a grand or more through the total gambling. I gamble with what I want to lose and usually lose it, lol.

I will play blackjack as well. Occasionally 3 card poker, but if the table fills up on the ship, it takes too long for my dopamine hit, so I leave.

In other words, i probably shouldn't be in this thread at all. I bring no value and this was the only active thread when I commented. lol

Yeah, 90% of the time it's either blackjack or poker. But I am a sucker for some cheap slots. They have a Rampage slot machine now! Remember that old video game Rampage with the monsters that smash up the buildings? That, but you win money when they smash the buildings now! A total nostalgia machine to sucker in old guys like me!

Precisely, me too. I'll only engage in gambling on quite rare occasions, and then for relatively small stakes. Maybe throw down a sports bet on a game I'm out watching at a bar that I wouldn't normally care about, or if my buddy wants to play blackjack, sure, I'll sit for a bit and have some fun. Over such short times, house edge isn't as meaningful.

I swear, it's like some of these guys aren't happy until they lose what they've won.

100% agree.

I've told the story on Junkie before, but I had a former co-worker named Jon who had/has a legit out of control gambling addiction that me and a couple of other (now former) co-workers got to have front row seats thru.

Dude had a WILD ride... he was up multiple years worth of his annual salary (playing roulette... .ROULETTE!), and ended up blowing it all plus around an additional years worth of salary (taking out credit cards/loan offers to go deeper and deeper in the hole).

Of course I was the 'lucky' one who was there when he hit rock bottom and I ultimately got to escort him up to the state gambling board office inside the casino (one of the most depressing places, war zones and prisons excluded, you can be in), and watch him sign the "I'm a hopeless degenerate who is self-banning myself from ever gambling in this state again" papers.

Watching him (directly, in person) go through everything he did makes it really hard to enjoy myself at a casino. In the back of my head I just know that there is a high likelihood there is someone else like him going through some stage of the same thing he went thru.

That said, I'm not gonna be whiney bitch about it. If a buddy that has shown zero signs of gambling addiction is getting married or having a milestone birthday and wants to get a group of 10-12 of us together and blow off some steam at the casino? I'm not gonna be the Debbie Downer that ruins it for everyone else by lecturing them and making a big stink. I have no problem tagging along (for special occasions... maybe once a year?), sticking to a budget and focusing on our group vibe.

I'm with Ulf though, there's not that 'thrill' of winning on my end. For me it's more about chasing a positive vibe if a group of us are winning, or, even if we're losing but doing it in comic "are you kidding me!?!?" fashion where everyone is having a good time about it for low stakes.

Additionally, ditto with Ulf and cruises.. if my wife wants to play a couple spins of $5 roulette and it puts a smile on her face? Sure, I'll tag along with her and won't be a dick about it or make comments about the evils of gambling.

I watched an idiot on youtube with a secondary crack addiction win more than $100K in an online casino and then hit the spin button until he lost every bit of it, then he won $200 and was as excited as he was when he won the $100K.

Researchers checked the brains of gambling addicts. They get the same dopamine rush whether they win or lose. It's the same fight or flight response either way.

was it this guy?
Watched/listened to the whole 5 hours while working.
Man that scared me.
For a day he had more money than what? 90% people on the planet?
And gambled it away in a day or so.
Insane.. I would love to know if there would be a sum, where he would have stopped.
He doesn't know. His hypothetical number came around multiple times. Never stopped.
Scary shit..

It's the same with me and prostitutes if anyone wonders
