Political Correctness

That's what I'm saying.

"well, that's amusing but this should be out of the news cycle in a couple hours when a WNBA spokesperson tells him to knock it off and stop being a clown"
that's the catch-22.

you can't have the leaders of the league clad in clown suits telling a pair of dudes to stop being a clown.

those bitches need to stand up for women. that's what these 2 guys are doing. enough with all this bullshit already.

but yeah - political advertisements for the midterms should be fire this year, LET'S GO!!!!

I just don't understand how there seemingly isn't a single person in the entire league (lawyer, compliance, media relations.... anyone) that didn't raise their hand in the meeting to say, "Look, I get the part where it's slightly more complex than boys have a penis and girls have a vagina... BUT, when we publicly respond to this very specific scenario we need to make it VERY clear that Enes Canter and Royce White 100% will not be allowed to enter the next player draft"

They had ample amount of time to run their official response thru a number of people and no one thought to say that?
but why though? you wanna let sacks with balls on the court then you don't get to pick and choose which ones. if you open the door to that, get ready...

I been annoyed by this bullshit since the 2024 olympics, I have 2 daughter who are athletes. I'll fucking fight another parent who wants to put their boy on a girls HS team, I'll throw down, IDGAF.

I generally agree, but I will say that there are some individual situations where I'm like, "oh geez, this is a mess"

There is a kid at my daughters school, Zoe, who has been on puberty blockers/gender affirming care since 'she' was 8. Thankfully 'she' has no desire to play sports but, if 'she' decided she wanted to compete in a contact sport and the district policy was 'dick and balls means boys'... 'she'd' get obliterated. 'She's' not athletic and would get wrecked by my daughter in pretty much any sport, let alone by high level boys. At field day 'she' was near the bottom of everyone in terms of athletic ability, boys and girls. Telling 'her' you have to compete with boys would put 'her' at serious risk of injury. Also, in 'cut' sports 'she' would likely get cut from the girls team anyways so it's kind of a non-issue.

Of course you have the opposite side of the spectrum where you have these dudes who went thru puberty from 8-16 and then get to a point during high school (or college for 'Lia' Thomas) where they realize they suck at sports compared to high level boys, and decide to identify as a chick and start puberty blockers going into their junior or senior season. Only a fucking maniac would think that should be allowable. I'm 100% with you in that I'll throw down if and when my daughter is suppose to compete against one of those opportunistic assholes.

I still don't for the life of me understand why we can't just have any of these kids who are going to undergo gender reassignment sign a waiver saying they can go to class and feel safe walking down the halls without people beating the shit out of them... but, they can't compete in organized sports.

Sports aren't an inalienable right... you have plenty of kids who are DQ'd from sports for a number of reasons. It could be grades, it could be a doctor refusing to sign off due to a health issue (blood clots/pre-existing heart condition, etc). We have the it baked into the framework that sports are a privilege... so, make part of the gender reassignment deal that you lose your privilege to play sports.

Is it really that difficult? I don't get it.

They can't say that, because (as I understand it anyway) they have no current rule/mechanism by which to deny Enes and Royce entry to the draft. They have to instill some sort of new rule, and that takes time and bureaucratic nonsense (all this stuff is collectively bargained). Plus, being an extremely PC activist league, they are going to have to carefully craft said new rule to perhaps still keep the door open for trannies. They really had no choice but to release this mealy-mouthed statement because they've really backed themselves into a corner here.

These are the posted rules, as far as why it's 2022 that's the most recent year that the full rules were posted/updated:

Draft Eligibility

A player is eligible to be selected in the Draft at the earliest occurrence of the following:

  1. She had (or will have) her twenty-second birthday during the calendar year in which the draft is held, and, since the NCAA granted every winter sport student-athlete an additional year of NCAA eligibility in 2021, she has renounced her remaining intercollegiate eligibility by written notice to the WNBA by March 28, 2022 or, if still competing, forty-eight hours after her final game.
  2. She has graduated from a four-year college or university, or “is to graduate” from such college or university during the three-month period following such draft and, since the NCAA granted every winter sport student-athlete an additional year of NCAA eligibility in 2021, she has renounced her remaining intercollegiate eligibility by written notice to the WNBA by March 28, 2022 or, if still competing, forty-eight hours after her final game. For the purpose of this subsection B, “is to graduate” means that such player would graduate from the college or university she is currently enrolled in if she were to successfully complete the coursework she is enrolled in at the time of such draft and such course load is commensurate with previous course loads she has successfully completed.
  3. She attended a four-year college or university, her original class in such college or university has already been graduated or “is to graduate” during the three-month period following such draft, and she either has no remaining intercollegiate eligibility or renounced her remaining intercollegiate eligibility by written notice to the WNBA by March 28, 2022 or, if still competing, forty-eight hours after her final game. For the purpose of this subsection C, “is to graduate” means that the majority of the students in such class would graduate from such college or university upon successful completion of the coursework the members of such class are enrolled in at the time of such draft.
  4. She is an international player (meaning a player who was born and resides outside of the United States) who has had (or will have) her twentieth birthday during the calendar year in which the draft is held.

The word "SHE" is written 11 times.

You're telling me that no one in the league was willing to raise their hand and say, "I agree that we need to better clarify our rules and we need to make that clear to the press, BUT, we also need to shut these clowns up. Not just because they are making us look like fools, but to also reassure the current players in our league that neither of these dudes will be allowed to be drafted"

??

Worth noting, they had this blurb about eligibility for 2026:

Who was eligible to enter the 2026 WNBA Draft presented by State Street Investment Management SPY?

All collegiate players who are turning twenty-two years old in 2025 were eligible to renounce any remaining NCAA eligibility to opt into the 2026 WNBA Draft. College seniors who have exhausted all eligibility are not required to renounce.

International players who have not exercised collegiate eligibility and are turning twenty years old in 2026 are also eligible for the 2026 WNBA Draft.

By the way... does this not make anyone else feel that there are biological men currently on WNBA rosters?

The only logical explanation that I can think of for why they worded their statement the way they did, is because they knew if they said Enes and Royce weren't allowed to enter the draft that they were going to be sued by a current player who would lose eligibility.

Maybe that's wrong, and if you ask AI it says there are no biological man or openly transgender women in the WNBA... but the way they are going about this makes you question that.

Yes, that is exactly what I am telling you.

Despite in their draft rules it saying 11 times that a player has to be a She.

That's too big of a policy limb for anyone int heir organization to step out on?

If your former employer approached business decisions/communication that way they would have went under within months of opening.

There has to be something else going on under the hood over there.

"She" means nothing to these folks like what you think it means to me and you. To most of them, a dude in a dress is a "she" so they see no contradiction whatsoever. I'm only surprised that you are the slightest bit surprised about this. To me, it seems totally on brand and predictable.

i would be shocked, if out of all people the WNBA folks will figure out what a "she" or a woman is, when every transgender discussion ends always with exactly that question.

Here is the CBA verbiage:

Page 152 clearly says: "Only players who are women are eligible to play in the WNBA."

PLAYER ELIGIBILITY AND WNBA DRAFT
Section 1. Player Eligibility. (a) (b) Only players who are women are eligible to play in the WNBA.

It's literally the first rule of that section.

are you a woman, if the ID says so?
I.. have really no idea, why we have to ask this question xD

Neither of their (Kanter of Whites) ID's say so.

White even made it easy for the WNBA by saying this:

On Friday, White told Fox News, "I'm transgender. I'm a woman… I identify as sometimes identifying as a woman for purposes of… professional basketball."

You have a CBA that says that only women are allowed to play. You have a man saying that he 'sometimes identifies as a woman, solely for the purposes of playing professional basketball'.

It's not anywhere near the legal quagmire that people who are saying the WNBA is 'painted into a corner here' are pretending it is.

is it difficult to change that?
I would not even know how it works here in Germany

Here in Illinois it's not difficult, but you do need to sign an official 'gender designation change form' and file it with the state.

Changing your name is a bit more difficult, requires a court order along with the paperwork.

Neither of these guys have taken any steps towards officially changing their gender outside of jokingly saying that they identify as women solely for the purpose of exploiting the WNBA's rules and entering the draft.

I get the part where the WNBA needs to bolster their rules and better define what a woman is. The fact that no one is willing to say, "we're figuring out the verbiage, but to any of our current players who are worried about the prospect of playing with these clowns... we can say without a doubt that neither Enes or Royce will be allowed to be drafted." is insane.

If I'm a player in the WNBA I'd be asking the press why the WNBA isn't looking out for my safety and shutting this shit down immediately.

Sophie did pretty much exactly that and is being raked over the coals for it.

It's weird because it seems like the non-extreme media (FOX News and HuffPost/The Other 98% are going to do what they do... I'm talking ABC, NBC, CBS) seems to be learning towards her side.

I was watching ABC the other day and they had an 'expert' on who was like, "I'm not gonna say I love the way Sophie has gone about it... but, it's clear that the WNBA does need to come up with better eligibility guidelines"... while the WNBA officials/players union seem to absolutely hate her and repeatedly try to undermine/attack her when they publicly comment.

Which leads me to believe that there is something underneath the hood/behind the curtain that the WNBA doesn't want the public to know.

Occam's razor:
when you have two competing theories that explain something equally well, the simpler explanation—the one requiring the fewest assumptions—is usually the best choice

Fuck man, these theories don't even explain anything equally well. We could just use diet Occam's razor, Occam's razor light, or low-impact Occam's razor for this one. You said it plainly and simply up there: boys have a penis, girls a vagina.

Oh but but but what about the trans boy who got on puberty blockers at age 9, never went through puberty, and isn't producing T at the level of a biological male? Tough shit. You made a decision for your child that makes them a medical patient for the rest of their life. Exclusion from women's sports comes with that. Some choices have consquences, you better use extra caution and consideration if you're making choices for other human beings.

One thing I will say though is I'm thankful I never had to confront this shit as a parent, I am empathetic toward parents out there who have to deal with this. But not empathetic enough to strip away opportunities for real girls who want to play sports.

That's exactly where I'm at with it. We gotta draw a line somewhere... draw it there and let's move on as a society.

I understand that there are one-off cases where it is reasonable that the kid who started gender reassignment shit at 8 years old be placed on the girls team even though he technically has a dick (that doesn't work). He didn't do it because, at 8, he wanted to rape teammates in the locker room or perv out or steal a scholarship. He did it either because he legitimately felt he was a girl, or, his parents pressured him into it/incentivized it and created this monster out of their own hubris.

I don't 'hate' that kid at all, and I can produce empathy for 'her'. If you want to meet in the middle and tell me I have to call her and her in order to keep my teaching license, fine, done. Agreed.

That said, empathy isn't the arbiter here. I also have empathy for the dumb as rocks idiot who can't play sports because he's too stupid to pass remedial math even though he tires his best in class. The fact that I feel kind of bad for him doesn't mean the rules should be abandoned and he should be allowed to play. You gotta show up to and pass your classes to play, it's a rule. It doesn't matter if we feel bad because you tried your best and still can't pass, shit happens and rules are rules.

It sucks that there are opportunistic assholes who will try to game the system to gain unfair advantages that ruin it for everyone else. Those people are always going to exist though, so we need to have rules to disincentivize them and/or negate the ability to game the system.

And as far as the, "not letting them play sports sends the message that they aren't the gender they identify as"... if you make gender reassignment a disqualifier just like satisfactory academic progress, it doesn't need to do that. It only does that if you make it that way. Just like a kid who can't pass classes isn't automatically classified as a retard... he's only a retard if he runs around telling everyone he is one.
