Political Correctness

Greta Thunberg is in Paris. Yes, as if the French haven't got enough on their assiettes with "youths" and "students" reducing the cradle of European civilisation to smoking ruins, the overgrown Shirley Temple of Stockholm rocked up this morning outside a school in Saint-Denis.

She told the crowd, "Young people are not being included in the conversation. Our future is being robbed away from us!"

The clumsy structure of the latter sentence gave me an eerie sensation of an Armageddon-themed ABBA lyric. I can picture a mournful Frida singing it over flickering firelight.

they were invited, but have been on a boat trip filled with selfies, parties and not very much humanitarian help.
If i would have kids, i would tell them to go to school especially on fridays

Apparently there's this whole internet controversy now over Shane Gillis making a joke on women dressing like whores to the gym

“I haven’t been to the gym in so long I didn’t know women just dress like whores now?” Gillis said in his monologue to groans from the audience. “Look, I’m sorry, there’s no other way to describe [it]. Have you seen it? I’ve seen it. You’ve seen the shorts? They’re those neon, like, artificial bait-colored [shorts], and the wrinkles go around the cheeks and all combine at the butthole. And don’t look! You’re not allowed to look. For real, don’t look, because they are filming. I’m in the background of 10 TikToks right now.”

Around 1-2 minutes from the start

LOL I just saw this 2 minutes ago.
Well Shane already got cancled once so i guess he doesn't give a fuck.
I sure hope he doesn't.
A comedian making a joke should never spark outrage ever.
This guy has the perfect response:
The part starts 26:40 and goes for ~3 minutes

I listened to the full clip just to see what the buzz was about...

I thought it was somewhat lazy for Shane, who is usually more clever with his stand up, but it was a nothingburger and certainly not "misogynistic'.

The entire bit was about how he's fat and how trying to get back to the gym to get in shape has been weird... the "some women at the gym dress like whores" was like 4-7 seconds inserted into 5-6 minutes of him being self-depricating... and he was talking about very specific women's gym attire.

It's extremely bizarre that it has received as much attention as it has... and a lot of the connections being made are unhinged. One of the female cast members posted a picture of her in standard grey workout clothes captioned "whore reporting for duty". He was not talking about the outfit she was wearing lol

It wasn't funny at all but nobody cares about that now

Good chance to re-post this

I thought it was fine by normal comedy standards... if I went to open mic night at the Improv and some random comedian said it I'd be like, "yea, that was about what I expected for $10-20 and a 2 drink minimum"

By Shane standards it was very lazy and felt mailed in.

Maybe I appreciated it more because I legit cancelled my LA Fitness membership and moved to the gym operated by the local park district 5-6 months ago because I couldn't stand LA Fitness and the number of a-holes recording content and using the gym as a fashion show runway.

I get the criticism where people are pointing out that many dudes dress ridiculous to the gym as well. Someone made a comment along the lines of, "I regularly see nipples at the gym... unfortunately it's from roided out dudes in 'muscle shirts' that they made alterations to, and not hot chicks". (Shane should have included that)

What Shane said was fine though. He was talking about a very specific type of woman at the gym... the one who wears the neon-colored booty shorts who is typically recording 'content' for her 'fans'. Every big box/major gym has them, and they are ridiculous to the point where some gyms are finally starting to enact rules around recording workouts and setting attire standards.

ya it wasn't very funny. I would have been a little funnier 10 years ago, but not by much.

Congratulations to woke social media! Once again you've ushered the clicks in that wouldn't have arrived without your help.

In Shane's defense... it's his 3rd time hosting and he's selling out NFL stadiums. I'm guessing his mindset was less, "Man, this is it... I need to pour everything into this and kill it, this will be my big break!" and more, "What? You want me to host again? Fine, I'll do Lorne a favor and kick off the season for them"

When I watched it that's the way it came across to me. Effort-wise it felt like a kid who waited till 30 minutes before the assignment was due to start writing it.

Not saying that's good or that top tier comedians should approach hosting network shows that way... but, it just feels like that is what happened and if you look at it in that context it's even more of a nothingburger.

If you look at some of the responses by certain people, now saying "I'm here to perform not to influence anyone" is controversial and cowardice
