I have read some people complainng about how many 5-round fights are boring. What is the general consensus here?

Here's my thoughts. 5 Round title fights are entertaining at first, but slow down. The only rounds in Title fights that are exciting are the 1st round, and the 5th round. The 1st round because of all the anticipation, the last because the fighters go for broke trying to finish strong or simply finish the fight because they're down 3 or more rounds already. But what I find is that the fighters will sometimes conserve their energy in case the fight goes for 25 minutes. In 3 round fights, you have guys that can go all day like Clay Guida or Cain Velasquez and go balls to the wall which is more exciting. But sometimes fighters will play it safe hoping to conserve their energy which sucks. Also, they are a little predictable. If the fight isn't finished by the 3rd round, you're generally going to see the fight go all 5 rounds. After 3 rounds, fighters are sweaty, tired, and don't have the energy or motivation to try and finish the fight.

In general, hell freaking yeah. Don't you hate when 3 rounders go to a decision and you felt another round or two would produce a finish? Gotta have 5 rounders for titles, though of course some have been boring (ie Sylvia/Couture).

Only when wrestlers are involved.

Up until recently yes. When you have guys like Silva showboating and dancing, and guys like Edgar that couldn't finish a guy to save his life though it's getting a lot more boring. Guys like GSP that just rip guys apart for 5 rounds, or like Sonnen winning a fight (in unimpressive fashion) despite being a MASSIVE underdog get me very hyped up.

For the most part, they are exciting.There are a lot of fights where I want to see a 6th round, but on the other hand, there are definitely some boring *** 5-round fights (like every fight Frankie Edgar will have from now on)

I am not surprised that this poll is getting totally owned.

Yes, as long as they are competitive.

I also voted yes. I enjoyed Edgar vs. Penn II, Silva vs. Sonnen, Machida vs. Rua I, but I did not enjoy King Mo vs. Mousasi fight

I have said before I would like 5 round fights, and 7 round title fights, 3 rounds aren't enough to implement the 10 point must system. Need at least 5, and 7 for title fights. Then a title fight would be pretty much on par with the same length as a 12 round title fight in boxing. If a guy can't fight for 35 minutes then he doesn't deserve to be a champion.

I agree, 5 and 7 seems good to me. Cardio becomes a bigger factor

the sports still evolving so I could totally see that happening in the next couple of years or so. I wouldn't be opposed to it either unless both guys were sucking wind the later rounds.

But why aren't the TUF Final bouts 5-rounders - since a very real "title," not to mention a "three-year, six figure contract" with the UFC, is at stake?

Because it is not a "very real title."

To me this question is the same as asking if fights are exciting in general. Some three round fights are boring.
I found Forrest v Rampage, Aldo v Faber, Penn v (Dirty) Sanchez, Silva v Sonnen, Cruz v Benavidez, Thompson v Melendez (both), Machida v Rua quite exciting. I even liked GSP v Hardy and both Penn v Edgar fights. More than anything I guess it's personal opinion, but yes, I find 5 round fights exciting.

Sometimes guys would be sucking wind, hell you have that happen in 3 round fights now. I think it would force guys to be better athletes, and show up in shape. (my boy Akiyama would be out of a career though) It's not really the cardio factor I'm focused on though, it is the judging system. There is no room for error from the judges when it is a 3 round fight. In a 5 round fight you have some room for error at least if 2 judges score one round wrong, it doesn't swing the fight so much like it does in a three round fight. A 7 round title fight would be awesome. 2 more rounds of Shogun vs Machida could have resulted in a finish the first time. OK, I know if this does happen, it isn't going to be for a long time. Still, I think it's a great idea. The ten point must system was designed for boxing where you had, at the time, 15 round title fights. You need at least five round to properly implement that system IMO. 3 just isn't enough.

@Killa
One draw back of that would be, fighters conserving their energy at the start of fights so they could keep going late on. I mean 3 round fights allow for guys to go at a frantic pace for 3 rounds but maybe not 5 or 7. I still like the idea though
