Dana White: Rampage Jackson's Last UFC Fight Will Be Against Shogun Rua

Mar 13, 2012 - Quinton "Rampage" Jackson wants out of the UFC. It looks like he'll get his wish, but not before fulfilling the last fight on his current deal.
According to a report on Tuesday's edition of FUEL TV's "UFC Tonight," Jackson and the UFC have agreed to part ways after Jackson faces Mauricio "Shogun" Rua later this year.
Jackson has previously said on Twitter that he was amenable to taking the last fight on his deal as long as he would be allowed to part ways with the UFC afterward.
If that is the end, it would mark the close of a rocky five-year relationship which began with Jackson's debut win over Marvin Eastman at UFC 67 in Feb. 2007. Just prior to that, Jackson had been fighting in the short-lived WFA, and UFC ownership group Zuffa LLC acquired the company. Later, UFC president Dana White would say that the only reason they bought the promotion was to acquire Jackson's contract.
Jackson went on to win the UFC light-heavyweight championship by beating Chuck Liddell at UFC 71 and defend it against Dan Henderson a few months later before dropping the belt to Forrest Griffin in July 2008.
The next fight would be the 12th in Jackson's UFC tenure, and he currently has a 7-4 record while fighting for the promotion, losing his last two.
No timetable was given for the matchup with Rua, which was reported by Ariel Helwani, but the bout should please Jackson, who has long wanted a rematch stemming from his April 2005 defeat at PRIDE Total Elimination 2005. That was the opening round match of the PRIDE middleweight Grand Prix that made Rua a star, and Rua won in style with a spectacular first-round TKO.
Jackson had a chance to take the rematch in 2011, but turned down the short-notice bout because he felt he didn't have enough time to get into shape and come in at optimal strength. Now, he'll have a chance to win in his last octagon appearance and avenge a bitter defeat at the same time.

Downside, Rampage will get destroyed. Upside this is exactly the style of fight and opponent he has been gunning for. Win or lose this will be the perfect fight to exit the UFC on.

Rampage. I'm going to be the lone dissenter here, just to be devil's advocate. Yes, Shogun beat the tar out of Rampage in their first meeting. Yes, Shogun is younger. And yes, Rampage is a predictable, one-dimensional fighter. But here is why Rampage still takes it:
Rampage still has a rock solid chin. Shogun, on the other hand, has been getting dropped in recent fights (against Henderson and Jones). I believe all those wars are taking their toll. This matters because Shogun is not a wrestler and will probably not be able to take Rampage down. In a brawl in the year 2012, Rampage has the edge. Also, Rampage has better cardio. Win or lose, Rampage does not gas out. Shogun does gas, if the fight goes into deep waters (unless he is fighting Machida).
I think the difference between now and the last time they have fought is, Shogun has slowed down and is showing signs of damage, while Rampage is about the same as he was before.

Umm...Shogun was fresher then Hendo in the 5th round. His cardio is only a problem after long layoffs. Unfortunatly this will be a good layoff so thats the only plus for rampage. Shogun by tko but its a good fight at this point for rampage.

I'm glad this fight will finally happen, but my confidence in Rampage winning has diminished quite a bit.....
I will still be rooting for him tho, I'd love to see him go out (of the UFC at least) with a solid WIN.

I see Shogun leg-kicking his way to unanimous decision victory......and then Rampage crying that the UFC only matches him up with people who kick his legs.
Rampage is gonna be one of those athletes who is dead broke 5 years after he is done fighting.

Shogun coming of a fight of the year peformance against Hendo what should have been a draw. Rampage coming of a loss against Bader were he did nothing.
Shogun by KO round 1.

Shogun Hendo should have been a draw? :? Shogun was almost KO'd like 10 times that fight... He took a beating then did very little damage in comparison against a completely gassed Hendo even late. Hendo was clearly the better fighter that night. Anyways, you may be right about Shogun vs Page though. Rampage seems like he has an interest in fighting now that he can use the TRT and feels young again he also has really wanted no fight besides Wandy in the way he wanted to fight Shogun while healthy and attempt to avenge that beating. Rampage can still be a very solid fighter... He just has to go out and do it.

He was the better fighter yes, he did more damage yes. But you score the fight per round and round 5 was clearly a 10-8 round, 5 mounts and he outlanded Hendo 79 to 8 in that round. Hendo dropped Shogun in round 3 but Shogun came back and he got the TD at the end of the round. Shogun was not dominated in round 3, Hendo was in round 5.

I hope you guys arent taking absolutely anything from the Bader fight.
Rampage will show up for this fight. In shape, and ready. Dude has tons of pride and will, and self-motivation, and I dont think hes going to have trouble turning it back on for Shogun.
That said I have this fight pretty close, could it quick or be a slug-fest. Id like to see Page use a few leg kicks, and Shogun pick up the pace.
I pick Shogun off being more active and doing a slight be more dmg by decision or quick ko either way.

And was still able to complete embarass Hammil. He stuffed his takedown like Hammil had never wrestled in his life and easily won the exchanges. I can wait to see Rampage get destroyed this time though.

Rampage is 2-3 in his last 5 fights and one of those wins was against Machida and I personally scored that a Machida win.
He hasn't knocked anyone out since the end of 2008 against Wanderlei.
He does a lot of talking for someone who hasn't done *hit for a long time.
Shogun via tko again.
