They should have the first time he walked up on the cop aggressively. That would have been a perfectly reasonable time to take him into custody.

That was the fight where I started to respect him a bit. I was pretty sour over the Mighty Mouse robbery. That was an amazing turnaround on a fight he was losing decisively. Not many fighters can dig that deep and turn around that much momentum. Moraes must have been giving it everything he had from every cell of his body because we really did see the devastation to his morale as the tide turned for good. Very interesting to consider the alternate timeline that could have ensued.

5-1 in the UFC, should be 5-0-1. Yet another scintilating victory over a giant. Probably ended the man's career by maiming his knee. 29-28 was a travesty. I gave it to MVP 30-25 after taking 2 points in the first round for 1) cowardice 2) fence grabbing/cowardice. 1st Rd. Rusbommaev landed 2 weak forearm strikes on the ground in the whiole 4 minutes they were there. MVP attacked a buggy choke, chilled a bit then stood up and landed 2 clean elbows. Only a total ass clown gives that round to the coward.
Pretty sure UFC can't afford his astronomical purses so we'll see him in the greatest league of all MVPFL next, whilst UFC signs fake fighters like Usman 'Airport' Squirmagomedov.

So Ilia is either fighting Gaethje, Fiziev or Paddy next.

I hope it's Fiziev or Gaethje.

I think Ilia brutalizes him in a rematch and that's why Gaethje is so hell-bent on refusing the rematch.

Man says "I broke him". So... why not do it again?

Ignoring the success Ilia had, even almost finishing him. Ilia didn't quit on the stool, his corner (brother) threw in the towel, after Ilia said "Uno mas" which means 'One more' because there was 1 round left.
Ilia has made 0 excuses for this loss, even made a nice video dedicated to his son, while every time Gaethje lost.. it was an excuse.

I get Gaethje only ever wanted to be champion.. but please don't go the Islam route, where you pick and choose the easiest opponent after you win the title...

Ilia or Arman make the most sense at lw, since Arman is booked... we have a clear passage to Ilia.

If you're gonna talk about a fight was easy or you don't need to run it back...

Watch dc vs stipe 1. Dc after the eyepoke got the knock out. Ran from stipe, refused to rematch him, while also claiming the fight was easy and no reason to run it back..

Then in the 2nd fight, dc spent 3 rounds gouging at stipe's eyes.. who ended up knocking him out, then beating him again, showing the loss was a fluke.

Gaethje is worried that if he loses to ilia in a rematch.. people won't acknowledge his title reign, they will see it as a fluke and a lucky night, instead of an actual win, the win will have an asterisk, which is why he wants an easy opponent or one he can defend against, to legitimize it in his mind. (He is a champion.. just matters what kind of champion you'll be, will you be like islam and pick and choose? Or will you be like Goat Jones, Silva, GSP, Aldo.. People who fought any and everyone in their division during their title reign?)

Either way, lightweight is either going to be really boring.. like it was from 2016-2021. And 2022-2025. (Some good fights yes, but Conor and khabib both basically held that title hostage, then islam also came and held it hostage and refused to fight actual contenders), or really really fun, if we can get back to 2 defenses at least a year...
If you're cutting that much weight that you can only fight once a year.. move the fuck up then.

I think I read that Gaethje is out till 2027 with injuries. If the ufc decided to go the interim route who would you want to fight for it?

He's just not fighting again this year, I don't think it's gonna last deep into 2027 will probably fight on the first American "PPV" event

Ilia and Oliveira, or Ilia and Arman.

Oliveira is the biggest name by far at LW and he's still dominating.. Nobody could even hold Max down for 30 seconds within the last decade.. homie didn't just keep him there, he dominated and looked for submissions the entire time. 2-0 since his last undisputed title fight, dominated both opponents easily, however he wanted.

Regardless.. Ilia SHOULD get that shot next. I personally feel these are the next contenders.

1. Ilia
2. Oliveira
3. Arman

The rest, need to fight and work that out.

Bsd is the ONLY top 5 fighter paddy has beaten, his ranking is a given after beating chander (who was ranked #7 for some reason... and hasn't won since 2022) based off that he got a title shot. The BSD win was phenomenal. I thought he was gonna get beatdown and he pulled off one of the most slickest subs ever. However... not title fight material and never should've been in one.

Ruffy is doing really really well, (even beating my favorite fighter), however I'm not seeing enough that makes me scream for him to be in title contention.

Toperia vs Olivera for the BMF Belt. Winner is the BMF Champion goes on in a title vs symbolic tittle fight. If Top takes it then a great rematch for a belt justin failed to win. If Olivera wins then Justin gets a rematch against a guy who beat him, and again gets a crack at the belt that has eluded him.

Justin was bmf champ, when he knocked out poirier, then lost that title to holloway who lost it to oliveira.

Since a lot of the point you made was about a belt that eluded him or you thought he failed to win, just wanted you to know he won it, so likely gaethje wouldn't have the motivation for that.

Gaethje has been speaking about retirements. I mean the man has had 7 title fights.. Ferguson, Khabib, Oliveira, Poirier, Holloway, Paddy, Ilia. The guy got every opportunity to win the belt.. now do the same and defend the thing.
