Just moments after Chris Weidman shocked the world by defeating Anderson Silva at UFC 162, Vitor Belfort (23-10 MMA, 12-6 UFC) began campainging for another shot at the UFC middleweight strap.
Unfortunately for “The Phenom”, Dana White booked an immediate rematch between the longtime middleweight kingpin and the newly crowned champ, set for this December at UFC 168.
The UFC then tried to offer Vitor a fight with Strikeforce import Tim Kennedy, but Belfort declined stating that the only bout he’d take at 185-pounds would be for the title.
With that, UFC president Dana White suggested that Vitor take a fight with former light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans (18-3-1 MMA, 13-3-1 UFC).
Rashad talked to ESPN.com on Thursday and stated that he would not fight Vitor Belfort or any other teammate for that matter:
“I won’t fight Vitor,”
said Evans, who trains with Belfort at Jaco Hybrid Training Center in Boca Raton, Fla. “
I won’t fight Thiago Silva. I won’t fight Cezar “Mutante” Ferreira. I won’t fight anybody who I train with!”

“I made that mistake before, and I won’t do that again. I lost a lot of relationships because I did that before.”

I respect Evans stance, I think Dana suggestion was kind of childish.

Dana probably just threw any name out there, but he also stated Vitor vs Rashad as a way to mess with Vitor who he's stated to be annoyed with and doesn't deal with him cause of that. he's not the biggest Rashad fan either. nothing new with Dana

Teammate s--- is lame if they were just kind thrown in together as teammates. Not like these guys have grown together like a family like say...Blackhouse. So ridiculous this still happens. Not a team sport gentlemen.

I think it's rather noble and loyal of Rashad to refuse to fight a team mate...
It's a shame that other top fighters don't show that kind of trusted loyalty...

Was anyone really calling for a Vitor vs Rashad fight anyway? Dana just mentioned it because he's pissed at Vitor.
Anyway, I completely agree with team-mates not fighting each other. You want to see them fight? Join their gym.

You know what fight I never thought about...... Belfort/Machida. That would be ridiculous.
But on topic. Friends not fighting each other sucks but it would cause problems. Like you can't fight someone and train in the same place, somebody would have to go. I'm not for that. s--- already happened with Jones. He ain't doing that s--- again.

it depends on the camp. AKA, Cesar Gracie, those camps had fighters that all depended on helping each other grow as fighters that fracturing the camp for 1 fight would do more harm than good. camps where like Chute Box that trained with full force in sparring sessions in an iron sharpens iron mentality that they develop a respect and bond that they won't risk breaking for a fight. then there's camps like Team Quest where they came from a wrestling background, they viewed MMA as just another form of competition and never had a problem in fighting each other, although they never did. then there are camps like Golden Glory in Kickboxing that's so big that guys can fight each other since they train mostly with a sub group. some what similar to Nova Uniao.
what makes this funny is that the blackzilians is more of a training facility than an MMA camp with fighters depending on each others growth, they're vets, that're looking to just stay at the top of their game.
and knowing that there would be a policy of team mates not fighting each other, why have team members be a revolving door.
if it was for the title or for big $$ I'm sure they would fight, this ain't 2 long time team mates that developed a deep friendship, it's two vets. and also consider that many fighters come across each other and train together. it's not what the opponent does and knows, it's what you do as a fighter. they're fighters, they want to write their own budo code that's fine, but don't go and rewrite their own code to fit their current convenience.

How is it noble? In this case the fight has no real implications, so who cares. But in other situations (say like Rory/GSP), how is it noble for one fighter to hold back the opportunity to advance their career. It might be noble on Rory's part, but seems selfish to me on GSP's part.
Don't want to fight friends? Grow a mullet and train alone in your garage.
As for how it turned out for Evans last time, I think he mostly did that to himself.

I was just subtly having a playful lil dig at Jon Jones, that's all.

GSP said it best that if he were to fight a friend or teammate, he thinks he would hesitate when he should be aggressive. He said if he was in top position and was looking to deliver a big elbow, he would think about the potential life long scar he could cause and probably wouldn't throw it. I prefer fights where the 2 guys can't stand each other.

I don't care if team mates don't want to fight each. I think it is rather douchey to try and force them into it if they're reluctant.

The whole kicker is Belfort said he would still fight Kennedy just not at 185, however Belfort just needs to call out Wand and have an easy fight, destroy someone for a second time then face the winner of Weidman Silva

If Belfort fights anybody at 205 it should be Shogun

there's actually a handful of match ups that I wouldn't mind seeing for Belfort @ LHW, including Shogun

I don't see why Belfort thinks fighting Kennedy at 205 is any different from fighting him at 185. If he loses in a different division, he won't get a MW title shot.
