Rashad's willing to pull over and see some scenery, but only if it's really cool:
"If [Rua] is going to be out longer than May or June then [the UFC] should consider an interim title and I will fight for an interim belt. It's something.
"It might not mean much to everybody, but it's something. But if I don't get a chance to fight for an interim belt, then I will just beat everybody in the division and I will never fight for the belt."

So does he fight the winner of Jones/Bader for the interim belt?
Though Jones has said he will not fight Sugar.

Source? I thought Shogun's surgery and rehab were all going fine and he would be back early 2011.

Shogun wanted to fight at the end of 2010 but Dana didnt let him. look what happened when Shogun didnt heal properly he lost to Griffen and almost to Coleman. guys he could of easily beaten if he was healed up properly and trained for properly but he was desperate for money.
Now if Shogun comes back 100% he will be unstoppable again. I think his only fight he lost with no excuses was the fight with Babalu where got submitted I believe.
Anyways about Rashad waiting he shouldnt he should stay consistant and fight. Isnt that one of the UFCs sayings to fight alteast 3 times a year becuase there the best in the world. Rashad should do that and fight someone.

Uh, wasn't Rashad the one that decided he would rather sit on the sidelines and wait for Rua to return? And now he's unhappy on the sidelines, but will only come off the bench if a title is on the line? Somehow, I'm not overwhelmed with sympathy for his plight.

Dana White hit back at the comments, saying the promotion has offered Evans a fight but he was the one who decided to turn it down.
“That’s the weirdest comment I have ever heard in my life. [Rashad] is scheduled to fight in March. We offered him a fight in September; he turned it down. He said he didn’t want to harm his brand. I don’t know what the Rashad Evans brand is, or what that means, but he said he didn’t want to harm it. It’s not like we were keeping him from fighting, he chose to wait for Shogun. It’s not our fault; Shogun had knee surgery.

I wanna know who they offered him cuz judging by that response it sounds like he wasn't too confident he'd still be the #1 contender

My guess would be either Rick Franklin, Jon Jones, maybe Couture.

He sat out for a title shot, and now that fight is postponed. He wants to fight, but not lose the title shot. He's being smart about his career choices. If he takes a fight that's not for an interim title, Jones/Bader winner will probably leapfrog him for the title shot.

LOL @ Rashad. I'm gonna be cheering for Shogun to beat him anyway. The only thing exciting about Rashad since he lost the title is that he's almost got KTFO'd in his fights.

Give him an interim fight against Machida to see if Rashad Evans is fit for the title.
Who knows, maybe Shogun will screw up his knee some more and his defense will be delayed even further.

He wanted to wait 3 months ago so he need to wait and stop bitching. The UFC give him a choice to fight Lyoto/Lil Nog or wait for a title shot with Shogun, he made his choice so he needs to live with it.

It was Rashad's idea to sit on the sideline for a year waiting. Anything for a shot at the belt. For this, seeing him get KOd in 20 seconds would make me laugh.

I find Dana's response to be worse. (but par for him) You can't keep having #1 contender fights, etc. when the champ is not ready to go. If your going to do something like that then you have to be 100% the title fight will happen soon. If Rashad's goal is to be champ, then there is no reason for him to fight anyone.
In the end, I see this fight being added to a February or March card so Rashad can start his camp soon. Besides, Rua's been out so long if looses it will be ring rust or injury and will probably get a quick rematch anyways.

Exactly what I'm thinkin.
If Rashad wanted a fight he could have taken it a few months ago, this sounds like a way to keep his name relevant since he choose to sit on the sidelines and wait for the champ. to get healthy again.

While that is true you also can't put a hold on an entire division just because you have your champion out. Especially a division like the LHW, because a lot of people like it guys are nearly as strong as hw's but fast and explosive to go with it. You have Bader and Jones waiting in the wings, Rampage and Machida not far off. and in that time while that stuff is sorted out I could see a healthy Thiago Silva make a bee line for the belt with a quick win over Vera and a few other people. Tbh I wouldn't mind seeing A silva lil nog fight

Machida, I bet. Matching up Rampage, coming off of a loss to Rashad and a win over Jardine, that the judges said he earned due to rocking Jardine late in the third round which Jardine was winning, with Machida, who got knocked out with a punch behind the ear (very legal and clean, though) by a major stud, is absurd. I don't think anyone else should scare Rashad. Only Jones and Machida can beat Rashad, I think, and I am putting the house on Rashad to lnp Shogun when he does get the shot. Couture? Franklin? Couture barely beat Vera, and wouldn't be interested in that fight, I don't think. Rich was getting worked by Liddell until that shoooort right hand with very little on it landed blindly. Rashad would beat Rich and Randy in the same night (half kidding, please don't consider it fighterbashing. I love Rich and Randy). Just saying, Rashad's at a different level. I think LHW has a clear top 4, being Machida, Jones, Evans, and Rua, in that order. Rua lovers can disagree, but I guarantee Rua loses the fight against Rashad and will never earn another shot if it requires fighting Bones or the Dragon en route. I really like Rua, as well, but Machida was taking him down easily and I have to think Jones could toss him around highlight reel style.

he saw what shogun did to machida ( no hate on the machidaman i love the dude )
he is just trying to sound brave before he gets KO'd again.
