ESPN.com
Rashad Evans and Phil Davis will meet in a light heavyweight bout slated for Jan. 28.
The fight, which multiple sources confirmed to ESPN.com, will take place at UFC on Fox 2, the promotion's second show on the network.
It's not the first time the UFC has booked this matchup. The two were scheduled to meet in August at UFC 133 in Philadelphia, but that bout fell through when Davis suffered a knee injury.
Evans (16-1-1) will look to solidify his place as the No. 1 contender at 205 pounds. He's currently riding a three-fight win streak, including a second-round TKO win over late-replacement Tito Ortiz in August.
The former champion had been next in line to fight title-holder Jon Jones following that win, but had to postpone the opportunity due to a hand injury. Jones is scheduled to defend the belt against Lyoto Machida on Dec. 10.
For Davis (9-0), Evans represents easily the biggest test of his young career. The former collegiate wrestler is 4-0 in the UFC and coming off a unanimous decision win over Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in March.
The Evans-Davis fight is expected to headline the UFC on Fox 2 card, which takes place at the United Center in Chicago.

Woah.
If Rashad is ready to go that soon tbh I wish they had waited and given him his title shot in January.
140 needed a main event tho I guess, Mir/Nog wasn't going to cut it.
Hopefully if Rasad wins he gets next shot at the title, but, I predict he gets injured and Hendo gets it in his stead lol

Davis via unanimous decision.
Davis has better takedowns then Tito at this point in Ortiz's career. He can definitely take him down and grind out the victory.

Rashad should take this easily, but considering how many times an ACTUAL title fight has eluded him....something is going to happen. It's more likely that injuries will derail his train than Phil Davis beating him, but ya never know. I don't like either fighters, so the outcome doesn't matter to me.

I honestly think Evans takes this pretty easily.
By tko.....2nd round
I think Rashad can avoid the TD and use his speed and much superior boxing to get the stoppage.

Wow, this will put a kink in Davis becoming a contender. Rashad is too good to lose to a relative newcomer that will have the disadvantage of inactivity. Lil Nog was able to stuff a Davis a few times and he's not a wrestler with the speed Shad has, plus Davis is not going to win in the stand up.
That being said, excellent fight to showcase Rashad as the next LHW contender in front of a large audience if it's true. However, I do think if Machida wins, Hendo gets next, seeing as he and Shad are neck and neck as far as contenders and a rematch of UFC 98 won't be as lucrative.

Giving the striking and speed edge to Rashad. The wrestling edge to Davis. With more experience for Rashad, and Davis coming off the more serious injury, I'm leaning towards Rashad for the time being.
Davis's wrestling has the potential to neutralize Rashad's striking, yet I think he won't get dominated on this matt heavy match to too great of an extent. This will be a war of attrition, likely going to a decision. Expected Main event, 5 rounds, possibly cardio will be the deciding factor, who's is anybodies guess imo.

I'm with you for the most part and I definitely agree with the bolded. Neither guy will dominate this one, imo, but another thing I'd factor in is that I think Davis is the bigger guy, and he may be able to bully Rashad around a bit. But cardio is a huge factor here.

Davis' wrestling hasn't really been overly impressive in MMA. Rashad is way faster, can stuff Davis all day long(see Davis vs Nog) and has way better hands. Rashad breaks Davis in the first and finishes in the second or earns a crazy lopsided decision.
And as I stated a long *** rime ago, Rashad will NOT fight Jones. The beef is fake and the fight never happens.

This could be a snoozefest. Hopefully Munoz/Sonnen is on the card and give us sum Featherweights or LW's. I still think they should have Faber/Cruz on this card. Have that headline!!

I disagree.
Lil Nog did an excellent job of stuffing Davis' double legs, but when Davis realized it wasn't working for him, he switched it to single legs and had a ton of success, that to me, is impressive. Plus, he took that fight on short notice, didn't he?
Was that the only fight that didn't impress you, or were there others?

I could see this fight playing out very boringly with Rashad winning by UD 29-28. Davis is going to close distance, but he wont be able to TD Rashad easisly. He will work Rashad against the cage. Rashad will score more points with takedowns of his own.

i think their wrestling will cancel each other out and it will be a standup battle in which i think rashad is better at but we all know rashad can get caught and knocked out should be interesting

Phil Davis hasn't shown any indication that he can knock people out. His striking is still pretty green.
I'm a big Davis fan, but dude is being fast-tracked and it's not a smart move.

i think he deserves his chance of the spot light he is undefeated and has fought quality opponents such as little nog, brian stann, Alexander Gustafsson ( who i think is very underated), and tim boetsch who is tough durable fighter. give the kid his chance to shine. people were saying bones jones wasnt ready for the spotlight either and we all seen how that has played out
