Cmon guys Shields does a have a very good chance in beating AS imo.
He has wrestling and incredible JJ. How can you say he doesnt have a chance with that skillset which has been AS main weakness.

I hear what you are saying, and I was just being a smart *ss. However, when was the last time that JJ and/or wrestling was a problem for Anderson. Can he be beat? Yes. Is Shields capable of beating him? I believe so. Is it likely to happen? No.

lol i know but u know Jake has really good JJ and since AS is scared of the ground it will effect him and he will have trouble. He was scared of Lietes and Maia on the ground. Cant say anything about it cuz I remember Fedor going o the ground with Nog in 3 fights. I think that shows that it is a weakness for him.

In my view, they were scared to try to get Silva to the ground. when you are on your back and your opponent, a known striker, is still standing, why they h*ll would get in somebodies guard? If they can't even come close to even slightly being able to physically take Silva down to a more favourable position, how does that make Silva scared?
Thales Leites had his opportunity on the ground and did nothing with it. Is Silva supposed to keep giving the guy opportunities until he gets a submission? that doesn't make sense.

Do you realize how spoiled we are as fans? Since AS came to the UFC, he only has two decision victories out of eleven fights. How many fighters can beat that?
The only one that comes to mind is Carwin, but he has maybe half as many fights in the UFC as Silva. I would venture to say that any fighter even close to that, doesn't have an impressive record.

Silva's weakness has been take down defense, many opponent have had him on his back. Lutter mounted him and went for the worst armbar attemt ever, ending up on the bottom. Jake Shields will take him down, and mount him and Silva won't be able to shake him off. I think Shields has a good chance to beat Silva.
Big Dog knows how good Shields is," what happens in the gym stays in the gym", but many people know Shields went through one whole camp, beat several UFC fighters with seaming ease.

I think that Shields has a better chance of beating Silva than GSP.

My point is that hes scared to go to the ground with them. I see that as scared. He barly even exchanged with either of them. Silva wouldnt even go into there gaurds and if he did it would be momentarly. AS was scared of being submitted. he said he wanted no part in either of there ground game him self.

If you're going to beat Anderson you'll have to get him to the ground and tap him out. Shields takedowns are good enough that he probably could get Anderson down, and shields wrestling and jj are good enough that there is a decent chance he could control the fight on the ground pretty easily.
Shields could also easily get knocked out though the longer it stays on the feet.
Anderson is the favorite, but I wouldn't be super shocked if Shields was able to pull the upset.

It's impossible to know what Silva is actually thinking, but I think most people will disagree with you on this. In my view, Silva didn't go to the ground, and didn't want anything to do with the ground, because there was absolutely no need for him to do so. Bottom line, if you are continually knocking your opponent on his arse standing, there is no reason to not stand back and let the ref stand the other guy up. Then you just keep knocking him down until finally he's either out cold or just has had enough (see Griffin, Forrest). And if the fight doesn't finish, you still win resoundingly on the scorecards.
Just because he's a smart enough guy to know that the only hope either of those fighters had of winning was a submission doesn't mean he's scared. It just means that he believes that if he never gives them the opportunity, it will literally be impossible for them to win. That's just common sense.
Shields would almost certainly be able to take Silva down though. Absolutely no doubt about that. However, would he be able to finish Silva from there? Heck, given how Shields likes to grab a single and hold on like a limpet until he gets his opponent down, and how much power Silva can pack into short punches or ridiculous knees, Shields might even be on queer street before he completes.
