Brazilian jiu-jitsu superstar Robert Drysdale will soon test the waters of mixed martial arts.
The Canadian-based Armageddon Fighting Championship today announced that Drysdale has signed a four-fight contract with the promotion and is expected to make his debut on July 17 at the company's third event, "AFC 3: Evolution."
An opponent has yet to be determined.
Drysdale fought one amateur contest under the Las Vegas-based Tuff-N-Uff banner and handed a then 5-0 Josh Musick a first-round defeat via armbar.
A highly decorated grappler, Drysdale got his start with the Nova Uniao team. A multiple-time world champion, Drysdale also took first place in the 2007 Abu Dhabi Combat Club Submission Wrestling World Championship's absolute division.
Prior to opening his own academy in Las Vegas, Drysdale was a jiu-jitsu instructor at the famed Xtreme Couture gym. The U.S.-born Drysdale also previously operated his own gym for eight years in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Based in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, Armageddon Fighting Championship held its debut event in August 2009.

Please Robert Drysdale. Learn some good ol' fashioned wrestling take downs. Then I will
gladly
pay to see you slap on some submissions!
I really don't want to see another Thales Leites or Demian Maia.
Not knocking those fighters, but in their fights with A. Silva their take downs look like they were wet noodles in the wind.

Out of curiosity, how did Demian Maia do against wrestling guru Chael Sonnen?
I don't think wrestling takedowns would have helped him stop getting punched by Anderson Silva.

It didn't help that Chael pretty much jumped into Demian's guard
I think that at least getting some clinch game with Anderson would of helped more than nothing.
I guess I should of pointed more to the Thales fight. I applaud Demian so much after that fight.

+100! Not all the wrestling TDs would've helped Damain against AS, AS was too fast on his feet and a telegraph TD from 100 miles, no matter how good it is, it wont work, even on AS...

I should watch the fight again. For some reason I thought he pretty much just like jumped into Demian's guard
My mistake.
edit, I just watched it again. Holy crap what a throw from Demian! I take it back from what I said about him. I totally remembered that fight going differently.

SF should pick him, along with Braulio Stima... then they'll have...
Roger
Jacare
Braulio
Robert
that is one sick grapplers roster, will be missing only Marcelo Garcia, and Maia...

I can tell you something, it will be very very hard to see anyone putting a sub on anyone there...

I agree, but I also think that in an MMA fight, Palhares is capable of subbing anyone at 185 including Maia. His leglocks are something that you don't refuse to tap to when he has it locked in.
