Well folks, what do we think of Roy Nelson after his win and can he REALLY hang with the UFC heavyweights. While I personally agree he should be given a top 5-7 can he really hang? He's tough for sure, but I'm still undecided. What do the junkies have to say about this???

Agreed, idk I still dont like him, I just dont. I have always wondered why doesnt Struve get huge? he's 6ft 11 and only 246? he should have to be cutting down to 265!

as a fellow gut having human being, i'm a fan. I would love to see him fight a BJJ ace like Mir, but don't think he'll get a fight at that level just yet. still.....i wanna see what he can do on the ground against someone who also has solid jits.

Maybe he's tall but has a smaller frame? If Struve was a bit bigger he prolly would've made it to 265 in a heartbeat.

I think he's still trying to feel out his body, he's only 21, no that he stopped getting taller he can prolly start putting weight on

maybe he should be playing basketball
As for Big Country give him Mir, I think he can beat Mir, he is good enough to outgrapple Mir and His striking has improved a lot, he has KO power, Mir hasnt had success against strong wrestlers with heavy hands, so I got Nelson here

exactly he is still very young and his body is still growin, im kinda disapointed they matched him with nelson. it was a bad match up for him to begin with short guy with heavy hands and a great ground game. I thought dana said he was going to his take him time with him... they should just keep matching him with gate keepers imo

Nelson's problem has always been the step up in competition. Those are his only losses, but they're important losses. I'm a critical Roy Nelson person, he's an entertaining fighter but not an elite fighter. But I'll admit, he's been impressive lately. Not winning fights, finishing fights and finishing big.
He's already fought Arlovski, Gonzaga or Mir would be good next step fights for him.
Good stuff by Nelson tonight.

Struve was 240 for his fight with Dos Santos at UFC 95 last year. At UFC 104 he was 143.5. At UFC 107 he was 247. He just weighed in at 248. he is obviously adding muscle and is actually doing it correctly in a slow calculated manner. He will continue to pack on muscle and increase his weight as he ages. I expect him to be close to the 265 pound limit by the end of 2011 and he should be cutting weight by the time he turns 25.

I see him as a top ten fighter, but the top five guys will destroy him. Lesnar, Carwin and Cain are too good at wrestling. JDS would knock him into next Tuesday. Mir can KO him or submit him, and the same for Gonzaga. I think he is well-rounded enough (no pun intended) to have a chance against Kongo, seeing as how Kongo's ground game is horrible. The more and more I think about it, if the UFC wants to try and push him up the ranks, they are going to have to be extremely selective in who he fights.

The good thing about Nelson is still the fact that being a IFL Champ is hell of a lot more impressive than being a TUF champ. Dominating Arlosvki on the ground is more impressive than being a TUF champ. The UFC can basically just stick him into good fights quickly, they don't have to feed him cans like other champs have gotten. Bisping.. i'm looking at you...

I see him beating Gonzaga.
For his next fight, I get this strange feeling it's going to be against Big Nog.

I would say Nelson is on the level of Gabriel Gonzaga and Cheick Kongo right now. Not higher than that level and definitely not lower. I feel he would fare very well against those two. Once he beats one of them, its on to Mir and Big Nog, who I also think are vulnerable to Big Country fighting. Its hard for me to put him with the likes of Carwin, Brock, JDS, and Cain though...

Actulley ,Roy kinda asking to fight James Toney would be kinda fun...i don't think that Toney will fight more then once anyway, and a Toney vs Kimbo match isn't a good matchup, cause of Kimbo's glassjaw...if Toney beats Kimbo, then he'll say that boxers are better then MMA fighters, then never fight again... i think a Nelson/ Toney fight is a more even fight, and ,to me a very fun match up to watch

I think Kongo would be a really good fight for Roy. Kongo is good, but he isn't amazing, so it will be Roy gradually working his way up the ladder(like it should happen). After he beats Kongo, I would so go with Mir. If he happens to beat Mir, give him one of the top 5. If he can beat one of them, give him a title shot, because he will definatly deserve it by then.

I think the same thing now, that I thought when he was in the IFL and when he was tooling AA on the ground for Elite. I like him. I think he has great potential and could do very well.
I think a match against like Buentello or Hardonk or something. Someone who can throw hands and possibly put leather on his face, while at the same time, someone who he can get down and submit.

Big Nog vs Nelson? Do want!
There's a strange feeling that Nelson has some major KO power though. Hope Nog doesn't get KTFO'd again.

I don't think you can really tell anything by this victory. It's not like he went in there, picked Struve apart and then finished him. It was basically the 2nd punch that Roy landed. How much of a guys skills can you really see in 39 sec?
But, I do hate the guy and would love to see him get wrecked by Mir next. Or heck, even Kongo.
