Well, that's one way to "retire" Kimbo once and for all...
I can't help but think this would just be SF's way of making Werdum a "name" to the North American audience overnight, can't think of any other reason for it.

Wow, if that's true at all it looks like Strikeforce doesn't give two shits about building up Kimbo or using his popularity wisely the way EliteXC tried to do.
Werdum is a top ten-fifteen heavyweight, this would just be nonsense. If Kimbo won I'd consider never betting on an MMA fight again. No way should this happen or Kimbo should agree to this. How is he going to train for this without Bas?

He would lose standing too by far (Kimbo). It depends on the physique Werdum shows up in. The way he looked standing against Vera/Gonzaga was impressive. But against Dos Santos, eh he was fat and slow. I bet the Werdum against Dos Santos standing would still beat Kimbo there.

I thought Strikeforce went on record saying they wanted Mr. Ferguson to get some wins before coming back as a way to take the pressure off, and wouldn't Werdum be too expensive for Strikeforce if he's too expensive for both the UFC and Affliction?

I don't see this fight happening. If it does then it's just a way for Strikeforce to make Werdum their all star heavyweight overnight. Strikeforce is lacking a decent HW division so Werdum would be a good guy to build it around, a win over someone as popular as Kimbo would make Werdum a fan favorite over night.
Obviously it's a very one sided fight. But you know what, I'd still watch it. As would most people.

It will certanly make werdum known among the casual fan, but that doesnt mean that Werdum will be their favorite fighter or anything, I think by now, even the most uneducated casual fan knows that Kimbo isnt the "most dangerous striker in the world", so a victory over kimbo wont do much on favor of increasing werdum's fan base. Ppl wants to see kimbo fight, that's it. And will be a terrible match up, kimbo has nothing to do in the cage with werdum. for centuries people complained and complained about how nobody was giving Kimbo a decent opponent and how he was just being fed cans. Now he might actually get a good HW and people are complaining that hes getting someone too good? This fight is a win/win for Kimbo, hed be stupid not to take this fight.
