Matt Hughes vs. Diego Sanchez, which was recently announced for sometime in the fall, will apparently go down on Sept. 24, 2011 in Denver, Colorado.
That's the word from Hughes himself but UFC Vice President of Regulatory Affairs Marc Ratner could not verify that. He did, however, tell MMAFighting.com that there "is certainly talk" of the promotion holding an event in "The Mile High City" and that if it is to happen, the show would take place at the Pepsi Center

i just don't understand the logic behind this matchup.
matt hughes, whilst great to watch, is not a contender in the WW division. he hasn't beaten anyone close to the top of the div since chris lytle in 07
why is he getting a fight with one of the top contenders in diego sanchez who's coming of wins against fellow contenders martin kampmann and paulo thiago?

This is awesome news for me. Unfortunately the only other big names from CO id like to see on that card already have fights lined up. Either way I'll be there.

I think you think more highly of Diego Sanchez than most observers do. Diego's victory over Kampman was much more gutty than it was indicative of any future success, in my opinion. He rolled Paulo Thiago, he got rolled by John Hathaway, shrug. Diego's just another guy...
I like the matchup.

diego sanchez could possibly be one of the top 5 most exciting fighters in mma history. diaz/sanchez,karo/sanchez,guida/sanchez,kampmann/sanchez, thiago/sanchez....

For the sanchez fans this fight will make him look great if he were able to beat a former title holder. Hughes is a MMA legend that i would love to see him fight anyone and any fighter in the welter weight division should be honored to fight him. Now as for my oppinion i hope Hughes beats every dream he has ever had out of sanchez. sanchez has a great heart for the sport of MMA but in the last couple years i hate just watching him walk to the ring. even with the win recorded over kampmann i dont put Sanchez in the top ten of the welter weights. With not many fights left for matt hughes anybody they put in the ring with him better not think he's washed up from losing to three guys who are in the top five of the welter weights in the world.
