It's the toughest test of my career. Nogueira's as tough as they come, I think he's the toughest heavyweight in the division. A win over him puts me right in the number one contender's spot and I'm looking forward to the challenge.

No one else in the division is really on fire now, I could see Schaub getting the shot.

If options get low due to injuries, maybe. But, I think that Mir would be a better choice, over Schaub. The only way that changes, is if Schaub just wipes the floor with Big Nog.
But, we will have to see what happens. Should be rather interesting in the HW division between now and the end of the year.

Mir is a more sellable name than Schaub right now, but I think the fact that frank mir has lost 2 title fights in his last five fights means schaub should get it. However, I would definitely watch the two fight for a number one contenders spot.

Roo posted what I was going to say. HW is such a thin division overall that it doesn't take much to get into title contender status.

I hope Brendan Schaub gets choked unconscious by Nog, and title is the last thing anybody ever mentions when talking about him.

IF he beats big nog, he needs one more big name victory, then he deserves a shot. if he beats big nog, then someone like Mir, then he absolutely should get a shot.

i agree with this
I think he loses to Mir, JDS, and Cain all are horrible matchups for him

by his logic he could be right...........
i know everyone likes to forget but Nog he was the Interim Champ.........and cain got a shot after beating Nog
Not really sure how you become the #1 contender with out fighting any of the other contenders.
Roy Nelson has 2 recent losses, one to Mir and one to title fighter JDS. Not sure how Schaub leap frogs him, seeing as he knocked him the f*ck out. So what if Nelson lost a few, those few he lost to are 5x more relevant than the fighters that Schaub is fighting and calling out.
Not to mention that he somehow would leap frog Mir, Carwin... the loser of JDS/Velasquez would still be a mile ahead of Schaub. Pretty much every remaining SF HW('cept Rogers), etc...

Schaub needs a win over someone better than a fighter who is...
a) coming off a loss
and is
b) widely considered to be over the hill and have a cracked chin
Nogueira is a legend, but while he was fighting Cain for the #1 contendership last year, at that point he was coming off a win and had only been stopped when suffering from a staph infection. Since taking another KO loss, he's spent more than a year on the shelf... that doesn't maintain your status.
Given that I'd expect the winner of the SF GP to face Cain/dos Santos in the new year, I reckon that Schaub beating Nog earns him a #1 contenders match, either against a returning Lesnar or perhaps Frank Mir.

UFC 131: Brendan Schaub on Big Nog, Shane Carwin, Frank Mir
UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub talks with MMA:30 at UFC 131 about his upcoming bout with Big Nog at UFC 134 Brazil, where he sees himself in the heavyweight division, and why he still wants to fight Frank Mir.
