I think you are nuts including Serena. I'm glad you have a crush on her. She is an awesome female tennis player. Probably the best ever. She isn't a top 5 sports star all time. Hell, she doesn't even have the record for grand slam titles by a woman.

It's pretty fucking simple: to be the best athlete, you have to compete against the other best athletes in your sport. She didn't.

The best athletes in tennis... ARE IN MENS TENNIS. If I'm wrong, then why didn't she play against the men? Why don't any of the women there's no rule stopping it. Ask the AI you need to do your thinking for you, they'll confirm it.

Hence, she did not compete against the best athletes in her sport (the men), she played JV ball in the women's league, so she is excluded from the conversation of best athletes. When you have to add the gender qualifier, they are thereby excluded from the "overall" conversation. That simple. No one says Jordan was the best men's basketball player. Or Gretzky the best mens hockey player. No, they're just THE BEST.
