Should JDS actually be ranked higher than Jon Jones?

I have long appointed Jon Jones as the greatest fighter we've ever seen but after last night's demolishing of Frank Mir, I think I've actually been overlooking JDS. Yes Jon Jones has been beating legends and former champions (with 3 title defenses), but at some point should we be accounting for the fact that some of these legends are "over the hill"? Rampage Jackson hasn't looked impressive since beating Liddell/Dan Henderson in 2007, and Shogun Rua has an asterisk after every fight due to his knee problems (never know when the REAL Shogun showed up). Machida/Evans are big wins but Rashad seems to choke in every big fight he has (he wins but he doesn't look overly impressive doing it), and the "Machida era" has been pretty sad since he KO'd Evans. Plus if there's any part of Jon Jones game that is still lacking, it's that one punch KO power which JDS clearly has.
On the other hand, JDS resume look like this: Cain Velasquez, Fabricio Werdum, Roy Nelson, Stefan Struve, Crocop, Shane Carwin, and now Frank Mir. All guys who were legitimate contenders for the title, and none of which were in the twilight of their careers except for maybe Crocop.
I think it's time that Junior gets the respect he deserves.

If he beats Cain who else is there for him to fight other than Roidereem?

Another p4p thread....(sigh).
I'll keep it short. You.discredit nearly everyone Bones walked thru, yet 1) Cain was coming off of surgery and nearly a year layoff, and 2) Mir is Mir. He's got more * next to his name than Shogun. It's JDS' first defense of the title. Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Cormier, Werdum again (assuming he's still winning).

There we go I knew there must be at least one guy. It would be nice to see Werdum/Cormier for the winner of Cain/Dos Santos2

Has nothing to do with pound for pound necessarily...just overall rankings. I think p4p is a bit of a misnomer because you could just simply rank guys based on their performance without needing that term included. But if you want to whine about another p4p thread why do you bother responding?
I'm also not discrediting what Jones has done, he's an animal, simply saying there are factors too consider, and I think competition level is a major factor. I even started the thing by saying I personally appointed Jon Jones as the #1 fighter lol.

If Jones KO'd Rampage and Evans in the first round, would he need a rematch to prove his worth still? Why does Cain/Werdum get these second chances? What did they do in that first round (since that's all they lasted) that made you think things will be so different the 2nd time around? I still want to see the fights but the wins he already has over them shouldn't be overlooked. Those are two top 5 guys that he put to sleep.
I think Cormier/Overeem are definitely guys that could give JDS some problems though. Very excited for those matchups.

Sure it has to do with p4p, i mean, who are we kidding? You're asking to compare 2 fighters from 2 different weight classes. You've just narrowed it down to lhw & hw. But i digress....
Assuming you're not making a play for a p4p comparison, then it's silly to even discuss until if/when they ever face each other...or multiple common opponents.

You say the legends that Jones beat are over the hill, yet list Cro Cop as one of JDS's accomplishments, when Cro Cop is THE definition of an over the hill fighter.

Well yeah and I mentioned that in my post. But at what point do you consider him over the hill or just not as good as people thought he was? He came into the UFC the first time around two years before and every Pride fan figured he'd walk in and take the title. Plus that was Junior's 3rd career UFC fight, he was still pretty green (only 24).

JDS is definately a stud, but their are great standup fighters out there that could give him trouble, Hunt and Kharitonov come to mind, both tough as nails and could probaly KO anyone.

No....
1. Anderson Silva
2. Georges St Pierre
3. Jose Aldo
4. Jon Jones
5. Dominick Cruz
6. Benson Henderson
7. Junior Dos Santos
People are going to hate JDS at 7 for me but oh well

I see where you are coming from. I think many people didnt like the fact that Cain was coming off such a long layoff. I also dont think anyone thinks Werdum stands a chance and right now I have no desire to see that match up. I want Werdum to win atleast 2 more fights
I also think Overeem would feed right into what JDS wants and would get destroyed

Man, you discredit a lot of fighters on Jones record just to prove a point... you can do that to ANY fighters record.
And beating "former champions" doesn't mean much for Jones, it just means they weren't good enough to hold the belt. How many former UFC champions are fighting at middleweight in the UFC? One, if Franklin returns. Welterweight? Possibly one?
205 has around six or so "former champions"
Jones turned the premier, most competitive weight class into a wasteland.
He has beat fighters by submissions also, and in my mind is a lot more well rounded.
JDS is a stud, and has a great resume as well. At this point I think he has guys that are a bigger threat to him, DC and Overeem.
They will both always have new contenders.
Werdum, Cain, Mir, Nelson, Carwin... Machida, Rampage, Rashad, Shogun, Bader
All opinion. Why does this matter so much to mma fans??
It's not like there is a BCS system that ranks fighters and actually effects them... just curious

I'd say yes if we had seen Juniors ground game. That's still a mystery mostly cause he keeps KOing dudes left and right. He's definitely working his way into GOAT territory.
