I know he was just the champion at Lightheavyweight but I think he could get the most out of his physique at Middleweight.
Also, the upper echelon of 205 has wrestlers with great submission defense who are a nightmare match up for him
Jon Jones
Rashad Evans
Ryan Bader
I think a move to 185 could rejuvenate his career and there are some amazing match ups
Also, if he gets a win or two and Anderson stays in the division who wouldn't want to see that fight?
If he dropped down he could do it slowly like The Axe Murder did taking a fight at 195 against Rich Franklin or maybe Vitor Belfort at UFC Rio

as a huge shogun fan at 185 he would be top 3 quite easily at 185

We need to know his walk around weight and how much he cuts to see if this is even possible. 20 pounds is HUGE weight cut. Shogun is never ripped so I was wondering if he weighs closer to 205 since he was 200-201 in openweight pride fights. LHWs weigh around 230 and MW are at least 200, or 220 if you are anderson silva.

Rua's issue isn't weight, or size, or anything along those lines. It his that his knees are having issues keeping up with the training, fighting, and basically, lifestyle of being a professional fighter.
Jon Jones might of just been a better fighter that night, but who knows? Rua also missed a year of action, due to ANOTHER knee injury.
Bader was submitted in his last fight, by Jones. Plus, Rua's striking is a LOT more techincal and powerful than that of many other LHWs.
Rashad has been at the very least, dazed in all of his last few fights. Lyoto KO'd him. Thiago stunned him back. Rampage the same.
Plus, why bother at this stage of his career, in attempting to cut weight. Wandi was able to accomplish this, because at the time of his weight cut, he was 100% healthy, and was able to do so. Rua, with his known knee issues, could become a problem if he is working on cardio and all that mess, to make a good cut to 185.
Personally, Rua should get another fight as soon as he can, and just get back on the winning end of things. He has the skills to do so, he has the will do to so. The issue is, does he have the health to do so?

imo, he beats everyone at 205 not named jon jones.
as soon as someone loses a belt, these conversations start. the guy was just the champ at 205, and now he's too small?
BJ lost twice to frankie, and all of a sudden people are talking about how the best lightweight in the world should drop to FW (of course he moved back to ww haha).
It makes sense for a guy like Florian, who has been so near the top of his division but never been champ to drop down for a last shot at a title, but shogun... he already has to deal with his f---ed up knees, and now he needs to drop an extra 20 lbs...no way

I wouldn't mind seeing shogun duke it out with anderson, could be some good fights down there.

anderson 'walks around' at 220, but doesn't cut 35 lbs. He diets and sheds weight naturally during training camp and probably cuts down from 200 or less.

I tend to believe that he could drop to 185 rather easily. It's all about his hunger and desire to compete in my opinion. Does he want to redeem himself and continue to challenge himself at 205, or does he want to go beat up on everybody not named Anderson Silva at 185? Once Anderson hangs it up, Shogun could run that division for a couple of years

if u have been following Rua then you know that people have been telling Rua to try 185 since the Pride days. its nothing new. even as a champ they said he should drop weight

The thing is, if Evans beats Jones I think Shogun loses that fight 9/10 times
Rashad has the best double leg at 205 and he's a black belt in BJJ so he won't be subbed or swept.
And to any moron that thinks Rampage rocked him watch the fight again.
he shot for a takedown and hit his head on rampages thigh rampage landed maybe two glancing blows on the ground

I'd love this fight, but make it at 205.
Seriously, no need for Rua to cut weight, and Anderson has shown twice in the UFC that he can compete, and still be in great condition, at the heavier class.

Yea this is pretty accurate. I also remember them saying for his last 2 fights he didn't really do the normal cut he was close to 185 or at it for like 2 weeks.

No.
He's fine @ 205. Got dominated by the new champ, but there's alot of good fights @ 205 for him.

how the f--- are Rashad and BADER (THAT MADE ME LAUGH) nightmares to shogun, Jon jones is no bader, JJ is not rashad, and JJ IS NOT A PURE BORED *** WRESTLER!!! Jones beat the living crap out of Shogun standing, are now Rampage and other strikers a nightmare to shogun???
Just for you guys to know, shogun has dealt with much better ground specialist, and that includes top game players such as ricardo arona, aronas top game is better than Rashads, Baders or any other wrestler there is on the division right now.. JJ is a freaking beast, perido, he would do the same to any other fighter...

Just because a fighter loses one fight does not mean that he should automatically drop a weight class.

Yeah, I forgot that silva can move up, that wouldn't be a bad idea, even if he moved up once to just fight shogun.

Totally agree. The guy lost a fight to another good fighter. If anything he should just retire in shame.

Shogun is another sloppy brawler who is a bit more technical than Wandi. I love Shoguns fighting spirt and enjoy watching him fight. I think 185 lbs is the division he belongs in the second he hit the UFC. He is too small for the LHW division. He would wreck havoc in the MW division

Shogun just needs to stay healthy. Those knee injuries are really killing him.
