I haven't followed this very closely... but this just seems crazy to me. People literally crashed our entire economy and nobody went to jail. From what I do know, tit's believed the FBI illegally obtained evidence against him.
There's another famous story of an fbi agent who was investigating all of this stealing bitcoins, and possibly also leading to the crash of mtgox and loss of millions of dollars to countless people
Apparently they paraded parents of kids who OD'd on drugs in the court as if this guy was directly responsible for making them OD.

Have to say I think 2 life sentences was a bit harsh. Dude was an idiot for a) leaving so many traces like he did & b) staying in the US after Silk Road got big.

Life is a bit crazy considering all this guy really did was run the site. But yet again... Ya War On Drugs! Shutting down this site did zero to stop drug sales, has zero impact on the smuggling of drugs, has zero impact on the selling of drugs on other sites.... Way to go! The DEA invested millions to catch this guy, had an FBI guy go dirty after ( I'm sure there's more who didn't get caught), and it had zero impact on the drug sector.... Here's another win for them!

I like reading stories about super uber smart people who decide to go the life of crime and end up with a lifelong jail sentence for what equates to maybe 8-900 days of being "really cool"
I'm not very smart, I definitely admit that, but from my perspective, being in jail most of my life doesn't seem like the best use of intelligence.
