So...dang. was hoping Anderson might be there to throw down the gauntlet on the biggest fight ever .But he kept his seat subsequently leaving the rest of us on the edge of ours.So..if your Dana, firstly why not start promoting this last night it seemed like everything had aligned for a proper challenge by Silva so.. what happened? and with this fight presumably the biggest ever, which contests carry enough weight to be on the 4 or 5 bout main-card?

I don't think it's a big deal. They talked about at the post-fight stuff. I guess they just didn't want Silva to jump into the cage right after he beat Carlos Condit.

Silva never said he was going to jump in the cage.....Dana said that or assumed it

If this fight comes off I would definitely want another championship fight on this card. Junior VS Cain winner VS Overeem lines up pretty well for a possible summer fight.

Silva was hilarious post-fight. When Helwani was asking him about how he said he'd take most of 2013 off and then he asked about doing the fight in May, Silva was like "Maybe."

I'll tell you what happened. St. Pierre was coming off about a 19 month layoff. Stylistically it was a good match up for him, but no guarantee. And as there was no guarantee that St. Pierre would prevail, the stand off in the cage was scrapped. As big as St. Pierre was coming into this fight and as many times as Rogan highlighted it, I'm confident that Silva VS St. Pierre is still the goal for Dana and the UFC. However, if there is any hesitation, by either party. Johny Hendricks is the ace in the hole for the promotion.

Personally, I think all parties involved are on board and already plotting the course of this thing.

We don't agree on Silva very much, but I am glad you pointed this out. This story took on a life of its own and it wasn't started by Silva.
Silva and Machida looked like they enjoyed the fight. It was good to see the fighters react as fans.

Gongabong are you brain dead? How much bong smoke have you been choking on before you posted this? You must of missed the part in GSPs speech after the fight where he clearly answered this question, by saying he needs to take time off to think about it before he makes a decision. The part where he needs to talk to his manager, trainer, dog-walker, mother, and whole "entourage" about what he should do.
So after CLEARLY saying that, you think Dana should just go out and promote the fight like it's a done deal?
PS-
Mods
, how about merging the 4 + GSP threads that all popped up in the last 48 hours into a super GSP thread since they prettty much are all based on the same topics?

What's so funny? Before the Condit fight, GSP wouldn't commit to fighting Silva next, yet Dana began promoting it like it was a done deal.

True... which wasn't the smartest move imo. What if GSP says no? Now all the hype for nothing? Dana is definitely jumping the gun on this one. Very misleading to show little Andy in the corner of your screen and still get no definitive answer. Very misleading imo and a lot of smoke and mirrors. I'm sure a lot of fans were very disappointed.

This is from another thread, but I'd really love to get the discussion going about this topic
Its so funny this superfight/weight question, so ill just throw me 2 cents in.
Why is it that there is so much focus on weight? Shouldnt the smaller guy be faster and therefore have that advantage? It's begining to sound like the bigger guy always win...
Is that the case?
And when you talk GSP vs Silva, their respective weight divisions are seperated by 15 pounds, but its not like they will be thrown into the cage togeher like that... I know that at a catchweight fight Silva will probebly be a little bit bigger, but its not like we are talking twice the size of GSP, and when/if GSP is a bit lighter, shouldn't he be faster?
I'm not saying its fair/unfair, I just wanna hear people's thought's about this.

A possible scenario (not saying it is what has happened) is that GSP has been asking for this fight all along (at least recently), but being the person he is would never disrespect an opponent (particularly one as decent a guy as Carlos) by talking about it publicly. This is obviously a less likely scenario knowing that GSP was contemplating retiring, but he could have been thinking about it even before the injury.
Between Dana's constant promotion style, Anderson's clowning, and GSP's tight-lipped nice guy personality, I don't think we'll ever know the truth.

Yeah and the funny thing is, even tho I did that and wrote that I just wanted to hear people's thought's about it, not a single thought has come about it. You have obviously read all the post's, but apparently none of you have any thouhgt's about this subject.

Here are my thoughts on it:
It makes sense. The smaller guy should have an advantage because he is faster. It makes you wonder why they bother having weight classes at all.
I can't wait to see Aldo destroy Overeem.
