All morning Ive been checking out countless MMA websites, checking out all different kinds of forums & posts talking about how overrated Gus is & that since his fight with Jon 2 years ago, he's been massively overrated. People are saying things like his footwork, technical skill & chin were all nothing more but Joe Rogan's classic brand of over-hyping.
Personally, I still think he is elite at 205 & IS one of the most technically gifted big men in UFC history. Just got caught last night, it happened to Mike Tyson too. So what does everyone here think? Are you still on "The Mauler's" bandwagon? Do you think this criticism is just the Jones nut huggers getting their final blow in on Gus? Or do you think that Alexander Gustafsson really is overrated?

1) no he is not over-rated
2) jones nut huggers getting their final blow in on gus? Jones has nuthuggerS? i thought everybody hated jones, that is why they're condemning him for sayin he wasn't impressed with Gus's performance, the same thing Gus did to Jones when Jon beat Cormier.
3) he tried to take the fight to rumble early and got ko'd as a result. he didn't get 'caught' he got beat down
4) was never on the band wagon, but any time the man fights you bet your *** i'm watching and likely cheering for him. This loss was merely a mild setback, as once Johnson loses to Jones, Gus will get pushed into a title shot rematch

He got caught by one of the biggest power punches in MMA. If Jones got hit square by Rumble, he woulda been in the same situation. Gus WILL be back. Gus vs. OSP, Rashad, or Glover would be nice.

I think the Jon fight was the perfect storm. I fully expected Jon to establish his wrestling and clinch game in the second fight and do much better. I really don't think Jon could plant on that foot the way he could cersus Tex and Daniel.
So, I think Gus was getting a bit too much love. What we saw last night, IMO, is we saw Gus come back down to the pack. He's a top 5 LHW but not necessarily an uncrowned champ. I think Cormier beats him as well. The game plan from Daniel that didn't work on Jon would work on Gus.
Overrated? I think the fight versus Jon was his best chance for a title. He is number 4 in the top 4 LHWs.

Exactly. His wrestling wasn't there. If you can't plant, you aren't going to have much success taking down these guys.

How can a guy that really tested the champ be overrated? He got blasted by a guy that only needs to connect once, it happens. Before that, he was doing pretty well with his footwork and striking. And even getting blasted big, he was never asleep.

You don't get to be a mega-star like Jon is w/out having a loyal following of nuthuggers. No one is liked by everyone. Some Jones fans need to understand that. I, for one, don't have too much of a problem with Jon's twitter comment, but i can ABSOLUTELY see why it would rub people the wrong way

I think Gus is probably top 5, but interestingly his only current top 10 win is Jimi Manuwa. I think DC would destroy him, but I would favor him over everyone else.

Depends on who he gets matched up with along the way. I think DC is a nightmare matchup for all the top LHWs. Gus has a very good chance vs most other potential contenders

Rumble is just on that good juice right now, probs could KO anybody at this point.. Gus was also dealing with the passing of his father and a surgery and long lay off... He got caught it happens to pretty well everyone eventually.
