after reading that new MMA Junkie story about Fedor wanting to sign another 4-6 figth contract with Strikeforce, it's really making me hate his management or whoever is advising him in his career. A 4-6 fight contact with SF, seriously? Who the heck are u gonna fight Fedor? Let's say u wait out the injury and fight Werdum and beat him, then u fight Alistair for the belt on your 2nd, then the 3rd fight may be Bigfoot if he doesn't lose again, then who? They gonna set up a bobby lashely vs Fedor fight then? A Hershel Walker fight? This is getting ridiculous! Just wait for the Werdum rematch or figth Alistair and if u win, leave to the UFC and fight the best. If he signs this new contract that probably means he's gonna retire as a SF fighter. Not good IMO!. Not good Fedor and this is coming from your biggest Fanboy!

haha I agree...but you can't say they aren't playing things smart (M1 that is). We all know M1 won't get anything with the UFC now so they are just using him for their own gain. Do we know if Fedor actually has a vested interest in M1...I'm not sure on the politics of these things...otherwise yeah he needs to get outta there or his future is doomed.

Good post Scott.....the thing you have to consider (not agree with, but consider) is that Fedor IS M-1, so 4-6 fight contract will probably earn M-1 more money regardless how it steers Fedor's career....you have to kind of read between the lines. It sucks, but that is how it is because Fedor really does not "love" MMA, but he is just trying to take care of his friends and family. I think he could do that better in UFC, and M-1's cash cow would be MUCH more recognizable than he is now to casual fans. More people know who Roy Nelson is than Fedor......then again, this all could be just a ploy to get the UFC in the contract talks acter Fedor's next fight....

i would love to see Fedor in the UFC the it's not going to happen it was never going to i'm good with that, He is grown *** man he makes decision base on what best for him not the fans and not his personal nuts holder that means you Scott. And take into the fact that he doesn't need the UFC plus he owns part of M-1 how do you leave your own company?

Is there any actual proof that he owns M-1? I'm not disputing it but I can't find anything other than rumor that he has a vested interest. The only thing that is for sure is that he was under contract with M-1, (signed a 2 year, 6 fight deal in 2007) but I can't find s--- about anything past that in regards to how he is still a part of M-1...fishy stuff since his 2 years should be done and has he even ever fought for an M-1 event? Has he re-signed with M-1 since? If he has there is absolutely a 100% chance he is not going to be with the UFC...and quite frankly yes it'd be cool but I'm over it.

Fedor being involved and/or owning part of M-1 doesn't mean he can't sign with the UFC. In fact if you have been tracking his career, M-1 has stated recently that they are ok now with Co-branding, instead of co-promoting with the UFC. That's what Dana and the UFC offered them last time and they turned it down. SO that got my hopes up really high that they were seriously considering going to the UFC and then this happens!

actually after that loss, he most certaintly
does
need the UFC. He now has a tainted record and legacy and even the best guys he can beat in SF are maybe AListair and Werdum, who are only 2 people in the top 10 in the HW division. The rest of the top 10 all are in the UFC.

Ya' know? I'm a Fedor fan. Big fan. But I'm also an MMA fan and love it all, regardless of the promotion. I hate it when I read all this crap about Fedor being chicken, scared of the UFC, only fights 'cans'....etc. After listening to Fedor, I have so much more respect for him than I used to do. Of course, that would make me mature............not like most of the posters on here. I believe Fedor fights who they put in front of him. If Brock or Shane were in Strikeforce, he would fight them, as well. This B.S. about him being scared is ridiculous. Now, I'm like everyone else, though............I would love to see him fight in the UFC but that's not going to happen. Doesn't make him any less the fighter.
I do think one thing's sort of funny.........the posters that post about him are probably teenagers who only know Brock and that's because they were WWE fans. It's all good, folks...........trust me. Go back and watch some of Fedor's fights on YouTube. He's a beast! I know he's in the twilight of his career but I really don't think there's too many HW's that could hang with him.........regardless of promotion. And I really believe that after his upset 'anomaly' loss to Werdum, he will come back badder and meaner than ever. And that's not good for his next opponent, whomever it may be.

Is Fedor the best MMA fighter all-time? How does he need the UFC he got money and he doesn't care what people think about his legacy if he did then he would have been the UFC a long time ago. And after that loss his not going to get the high price he got last time if the dude is happy where he is then thats where he is going to stay I hope i'm wrong but he's not going to the UFC. Need is strong word to use.

I don't know man, I see your points but a lot of the posters here do know what they're talking about. We just sometimes conflict on different things which is what discussion is all about. I agree that Fedor isn't scared of anyone, (how could he be?) but the point is that the only reason he is not in the UFC is for money. The UFC offered all that they can without setting a bad precedent for themselves and making a horrible business decision and Fedor/M-1 declined (which is why the UFC is where they are...and why Strikeforce will be out of business before Fedor even fulfills his 4-6 fight contract). We know Fedor doesn't care about his legacy as a fighter and I think it just frustrates fans to the point that the only thing they really can say is that he's scared of the top HW's when in fact this is allllllllll about the moola...and really who can blame him? I'd love to have the option to retire when I was 35 haha. Would I love to see him in the UFC fighting guys like Mir, Carwin, Lesnar, Cain, Duffee, Nelson, JDS, Jon Jones, Silva etc....absolutely, but I'm just done thinking about these hypothetical matches now that we know what his/M-1's ultimate goal is.

if anyone honestly thinks Fedor is scared to fight in the UFC than they don't follow MMA and aren't a hardcore MMA fan. Just a UFC fan. He's definately not scared, but I would love to see him test himself against the UFC's best, which are the majority of the top 10 HW's in the world. The reason Fedor Needs the UFC if just for legacy reasons and to hush all the Fedor haters who will always say no matter what he did in the past "Fedor never faught anyone in the UFC, so he wasn't the best". It's not true, but it will always be an argument if your a fan like me with everyone in the world who follows the UFC but not MMA. It's to the point of frustration where it's an easy cop-out for people to say that have no idea about Fedor except what they have seen in the last year or so and don't take the time and effort to research him or his fights. I don't understand how anyone can hate a guy who looks like a refrigerator repair guy and knocks out and submits fools twice his size for over a decade, never gets cocky or boasts and even in defeat is a gentleman.

Not to say that this makes a difference, but most posters are not young 15 yr olds who particiapte in the MMAJunkie Radio forums. I know who most of them are, just saying.
RE: your post, I completely agree with you and I don't think Fedor is afraid of any other fighter on the planet. I don't think fear is in his dna. This has nothing to do with fear.....it has everything to do with the point that Fedor does not "love" the sport, he does not care about his legacy as much as us fans do, and if he had to quit fighting tomorrow....he would not think twice. He does this more for his country, his friends and family, and the other fighters/employees of M-1. His legacy surrounding the people from Russia is far more important to him than MMA Fans/Media. This is all my opinion though.....

I agree with most your takes on this post, but one thing Scott.....you are not the definer of "MMA Hardcores". You like to say things like "you are not an MMA Hardcore if you think this", but that has nothing to do with it. There are plenty of fans more hardcore than you who believe that Fedor has not fought top competition to deem him p4p within the past few years and their points are valid. I am not saying I am one of them, but the arguements can be made when you look at who his opponants have been and I don't give a s--- where Tim S., AA, and Rogers were ranked at the time. There was a time when David Loisou was ranked and had a title fight with Rich Franklin.....since then he is 5-5. Sometimes you don't know a fighter's true rank until time has elapsed. Thierry Sokoujou is another example.

see, there ya go. Your helping me prove my point why fedor NEEDS the ufc to cement his legacy as the greatest fighter in MMA. Even those comments from hardcores are debatable, but still have some validity to them. THe worst part about it is that there's not response to it. We can't do anything about M-1 and Fedor not joining the UFC and Fedor doesn't care about any of that stuff, so it's a no-win argument to most. He's not scared to fight in the UFC, but he probably wont fight the best because of which. So there's no way to win unless he is in the UFC.

I'm not so sure SF is all that excited to continue to do business with M-1. At least not under their current terms.

I highly disagree Fedor, Hendo, King MO, and Alistair are their prize posessions no matter what they contract terms are.

Didn't know Fedor speaks english and reads forums. He doesn't care about fans, haters, or UFC. If anybody makes a decision base on what people think who has no impact on his life is dumb.

There really is no one legitimate for him to fight unless they attempt to just make super fights where they make him move down or something... I dunno.
Regardless, I think this cements the fact that we all know the talent level in SF doesn't necessarily match up with the pedestal Fedor has been put on when compared to past opponents. Bottomline is that M-1 wants to try to pad the last leg of his career I'm sure.
When it's all said and done, aren't we going to say...
Fedor was a great fighter, a legend, but he never fought in the UFC. It's almost like having an astric next to his name to a certain extent. He'll be remembered, but I'm sure it will be in a "yeah, but" way.
