Make title fights last as many rounds as it takes for there to be a KO/TKO or submission. I realize this is just one of those ideas that is never gonna come to fruition, but I kind of like the idea. Just imagining re-living an epic nine-rounder with friends years down the road.
At least you admitted it won't happen so I won't lecture you on why it won't like a lot of people are but hell yeah, Edgar/Manard rounds 6,7,8,9.
at the thought of GSP fights having no round limit.
He'd still be jabbing Koschecks eye....

Holy crap, just realized how terrible this idea is.
I would not want that, GSP v Koscheck 2 as a perfect example why.
My attention span barely sticks with 5 rounders anyways. I was definitely ready for Edgar v Maynard 2 to be over by that fifth round....

If somehow Fitch became champion...
Fitch retains his title by submission(exhaustion due to hugging) at day 19, 14 hours, 9 minutes, 32 seconds

win
There has to be a limit on fights. Even back in the hardcore days, pride 1, they had one thirty minute round. There are some fights that will just keep going untill submission by exhaustion. Everytime you make a change to the system there will be people ready to take advantage of it.

Why does boxing have so many rounds compared to MMA?

Because boxing rounds are only 3 minutes, and it takes less energy to only throw punches than it does to grapple, clinch, and throw a variety of strikes.
Why, I once watched "Gentleman" Jim Corbett fight an Eskimo fellow bare-knuckled for a hundred and thirteen rounds! Of course, back then, if a fight lasted less than fifty rounds, we demanded our nickel back!

Had to be one of the most boringest fights ever, neither engaged they just circled each other. This fight was not a big selling point for the UFC back in the day.

The circled because right before the fights started they were told that no closed hand strikes were to be allowed. This is when all the political firestorm was coming down on the event.

When you think about it, we might have dodged a bullet there. 30 minutes of them slapping each other might have turned people off, haha.
