I don't understand why elbows to the head of a grounded opponent is not allowed in Strikeforce. I think that "elbow causes cuts to the head" argument is dying in down a lot lately. Fighter's have a better chance of getting a "win" over Fedor with elbows.

Was that Strike Forces call or the illonois state athletic commision ?
Edit- if its Strikeforce they should not change rules to make anyone person more beatable.

I love elbows to a downed opponent & I really enjoyed the knees that were allowed in pride. I guess MMA in America still has to contend with the weak sisters who think it's barbaric.

The ACs make the minimum rules, the promotions can add rules ontop of them so to speak. SF doesnt allow elbows to a grounded op. I think its the PFC or KOTC that have shorter round durations even though they are in cali that does 5 minute rounds (someone correct me if wrong since I dont live out there). So long as the rule difference is not trying to allow somethign the SAC does not allow I think its all good. Another example is Ohio who removes the 2nd day weigh in for the UFC and I think has for other promotions as well in the past.

i would love to see knees to the head of a grounded opponent & elbows to the head of a grounded opponent in Strikeforce. I would love to see Knees to the head of a grounded opponent in UFC/WEC.
i could live w/o stomps & soccer kicks to the head of a grounded opponent

I dislike this rule for more reasons than I like it, but who here likes when a fight stops due to a cut? Almost all the worst cuts are due to elbows on the ground, so hopefully this will cut down on that. (no pun intended)

Do you want to see competitive fights or do you want to see people get seriously injured? That's really what it comes down to I think. Knees to the head of a grounded opponent are completely unnecessary as are soccer kicks and stomps. Elbows cause cuts but don't have as much of an IMPACT effect on the brain as the aforementioned techniques do. At least in my opinion. I'm no doctor. Just a logical thought.

They would with knives and guns as well, should they be allowed? It reminds me of when Formula1 changed the point system because Schumacher was dominating year after year. It was a stupid idea that they have been trying to fix ever since. Elbows aren't allowed because the cuts can end otherwise great fights. You see some guys in the UFC that have little skill but are just good at cutting with their elbows getting wins they really shouldn't.

Strikeforce should cut this rule so to speak and allow the elbows.
On the other strike issues I agree with not allowing the knees and kicks to the head of a downed opponent, but one thing I would get rid of is foot stomps, I don't know why but I have never liked them and wouldn't mind seeing them go

I think if a Muay Thai fighter can use elbows when he is standing up then a wrestler or BJJ guy should be able to use elbows on the ground. That is just my opinion, though.

People whine so much about UFC being watered down MMA not allowing soccer kicks, stomps, knees on the ground
but lo and behold at UFC 104, Stevenson battered Spencer Fisher with elbows on the ground and that won him the fight.

knee and soccer kick to the head is crazy, it could lead to serious injury, i never knew why they allow that in Japanese MMA, consider how often the fighters fight.
and elbow to the head on the ground just leads to cuts and stoppage, I rather see stoppage due to world of hurt rather than cuts.
