i was just thinking, who was the last guy to take the chael sonnen route of smack talk and actually win?
Sean Mccorkle- got beat down
Josh Koscheck- got jabbbed 6k times and lost
sonnen- triangled in the 5th
bisbing vs hendo- bisbing almost died
do you guy think it is worth it to talk all that smack for the name recognition it gets you, or the hype it build for your fight, or do you guys think it causes more trouble for the guy going the smack talk?
also, can you guys think of anyone who took the sonnen route and won

You can add Cole Miller to that list. He rans his mouth about wrestlers a couple months ago and got mauled by Wiman.
Do I think its worth it. It's a calculated risk. As of late, those who run their mouths, lose. However, it gains them air-time and the fans buy into it for the most part. So if he's willing to take an "L" why not, more money, bigger fights... Besides, we know Chael tends to ignore his loses.

It doesn't change the outcome of a fight and it is kinda funny, so I say 'I GOT A FEVER AND THE ONLY CURE IS MORE COWBELL'.

I think Frank Shamrock is the orginator of this "fight-selling" technique, but Sonnen took it to a whole new level. Shamrock did once run his mouth about Baroni (he even did it while they were in the cage) and he did defeat Baroni soundly. Also, Nick Diaz did it to Robbie Lawler and knocked him out. But thats all I can think of. Oh and lets not forget Tito. He mocked his opponents before and after their matches back in the day. Remember the t-shirts? Lol

Another one of recent would have been James Toney against Randy Couture. Talked a bunch of garbage, got dominated, and subbed in the 1st round.

^^^ LoL @ J.T. No one could understand what he was saying anyways. They should of hired Ed Soares to translate.

The only thing Sonnen is an example of is what not to do.

Hardy vs. Marcus Davis, Hardy played a blinder in the build up to that fight - got his name out there and threw Davis off his game big time...he tried the same thing with GSP and got dominated though!

Cole Miller didn't talk trash about wrestlers he said he had a problem with people who try to win fights by trying to out point their opponents rather than trying to finish them. I absolutely agree with him on that one.

I don't think the sonnen route pays off at all. Money Laundering is nearly impossible to do without leaving a paper trail and getting busted.

I thought this thread was going to be about real estate scams.

Well by the ways of talking smack sure why not, but as for it paying off.
Anderson Silva got his *** kicked that night. As far as the fight is concerned I would have rather been Chael the next day.
Josh Koschek was still standing at the end, and Just had a black eye(eye have seen much worse).
As for Bisping, I loved every second of that one, and it paid off watching him get decked.

The thing with Bisping is he says what almost every other fighter says before a fight except what ever he says is treated as ten times worse because hes British.
Poor Bisping
