I know for a fact that a few of the families are here illegally. One has outright told me like it was no big deal... and I guess to them it isn't because they know there's not shit I can do about it.

The messed up part is that the owners of the facility also, by state law, can't do anything.

This state is so fucked up.

My train of thought, not knowing wtf was going on other than multiple phones had been taken, was... my daughters been with this program for years now, I've personally sunk thousands of dollars into it... she's already an unpaid coach (solely due to state law... they want to pay her, and to be fair they kind of do via reduced tuition/gym fees costs, they just can't directly pay her because she's only 13) there and they've set her up to be a paid coach as soon as she turns 14.

Point being, we're in deep there. I gotta show my face at that facility probably 75 days out of the year? Then my wife is probably there another 100-140 days. Legit, we're there 2/3 of the year in a given year.

Soon as we realize it was more than just my daughters phone it threw the, "oh, maybe his daughter grabbed the wrong phone and it's sitting in her backpack and that's why no one is picking up" theory out the window and that's when the gym owner told me not to make a house call and that law enforcement was being involved... but, when the cop asked before knowing anything if I wanted to press charges.. I didn't know what kind of sob story they were going to give.

Last thing I needed was for the dad and his kid to get cuffed and charged and then come into the facility tomorrow saying, "my daughter is special needs, we handed the phones over immediately but the officers said the families demanded charges so we got cuffed and dragged into the station on a school night" and then I gotta show up every day and have some of the other families that knew that family side eying me.

For what it's worth, the other parents (we all went to the station together) took a similar posture to me... it was an uncomfortable, "Shit... If he admits he stole them, yes, cuff him and charges please. If you recover the phones undamaged and get a sob story and drags the 8 year old into it? Ugh, we'll defer to your judgement"

I was the one who threw in the, "If the phones are damaged/broken, I don't really care what the story is... charge him. I'll have to fight it out in small claims and charges backing it up will help" wrinkle into it.

Have you guys seen the World Cup ticket insanity? They just listed their 'top their' ticket to a game at the Meadowlands for $32,000. The cheapest seat they are selling is $1,200. Their argument is that the US allows reselling of tickets so they are just going to market their tickets at the resale price. Fuck you! And they are still taking 15% from the seller and the buyer if anyone does resell their ticket.


What a totally corrupt and awful organization. Of course NJ has to jump in too.... their usual bus ride from their many park and ride stops to the meadowlands is $13. For World Cup games they were going to charge $150 for the trip, which they now lowered to $105.

The greed is disgusting.

It's supply and demand....

Millions of people want to see an event in a location that can only hold 82,500 people.

I guess they could go the Bernie Sanders/AOC model and have a raffle where they give 82,500 tickets away for $10 each, and use TV revenue to break even as an organization?

If they do that though, they're going to have a bunch of people who have been saving money for years to purchase a ticket that are going to be pissed that they are iced out.

You can't win in a situation like this. Yea it sucks that tickets are outrageously expensive, but... at least it makes it easy for me to pass on the event.


That said, the "we have no control over the secondary marketplace" rhetoric is laughable when they are taking 15% off both the front and back end. They have complete control, lol.

I'm less 'outraged' by all of it and more amused by their "we hear your cries, but are powerless to do anything about it" diatribe.

They should just own it and start sending their PR person up to the stage with a cigar in his mouth, and have him light it with a $100 bill and say, "you idiots are making us so rich! Why are you people so fucking stupid!!??! We're setting the prices so high and you keep paying and paying!!"

Now this, I agree with. I'm much more 'outraged' (not really, but it's a trendy word) about NJ Transit trying to use the World Cup as a get out of jail free card for their complete ineptitude.

The World Cup is a one-time event... but the train that is taking people to/from the event isn't a one-time build... it's a public service that is funded between normal ticket fares, government subsides and taxpayer dollars and is going to continue raking in money long after the World Cup leaves.

I could see a nominal bump in prices due to having to hire additional security, or overtime pay for staff... turning a $13 ticket into a $150 ticket is ridiculous on the part of a taxpayer funded and government subsidized entity.

Run your organization properly, don't rip off tourists to cover your own stupidity.

There's no way these stadiums will be even half full at the group stage regardless of the price. Maybe when the host nation is playing

All games should sellout, there is enough demand from people who just "want to see a World Cup game" to put a butt in every seat.

That said, ticket prices for all non-host country group stage games SHOULD drop between now and 6/11 (start of first game).

Right now there are a bunch of speculators, from all over the world, that have grabbed tickets for games they have no way of traveling to who are gouging impatient people that do have the means/desire to travel and watch these games on 3rd party marketplaces.

As each event draw closer, the speculators will realize their game of chicken nosebleed resale asking price will not be met and they'll lower it accordingly.

They aren't just going to sit on the ticket at a 20x markup and lose money, they'll lower it to 10x and then go lower if needed.

This shouldn't be secret knowledge... and I understand the frustration from people who actually want to see the game that are being denied that opportunity by speculative assholes who are just trying to make a buck. The way that order is restored is for people to not engage with the speculators.
 
It's a water cooler moment for the patrician class. It will mostly sell out, with a few thousand being given away as prizes for some advertising company.

I thought about going, I saw two club world cup games last year. My tickets to see Borussia Dortmund versus Fluminense and Palmeiras vs Porto? Were like $50 each, for almost pitch side seating. But this? Lmao, nah, most I ever spent was $600 twice for two MSG cards (McGregor/Alvarez and Adesanya/Pereira). Not a chance.

Sporting events in the US are a bit different. A rando trust fund kid from Chelsea in Manhattan who has more money than sense would pay $1,000 to see Senegal play Greece when he couldn't find either of them on the map, just for the purpose of putting it on his social media account and get the dopamine rush from random likes.

And then you have the corporate watch parties that use these events to entertain wealthy clients or conduct business. They write the tickets off as a tax deductible business expense.
 
On the topic of ticket prices, cheapest seat for UFC 328 now available is $450 dollars for row two of the upper deck.

Yeah, I am going to wait to see what they have planned for MSG this year. Wish they also did cards in Long Island more often, those are usually a lot cheaper.
 
This is just so absurd though. I know everyone does the ticket gouging now. I used to convince my friends to pay $250-$350 for UFC tickets. Same tickets are not $600+. Fuck it. I'm not going. There is a point it doesn't make sense.

However, I also just paid $900 for a ticket to see Metallica at the Sphere. So who am I to talk? But that was actually a resale purchase, not the original ticket price (although that was plenty expensive on its own). To me though that is a once in a lifetime event for something I've been heavily invested in for 40 years now. I guess that's how some soccer fans think of it. But they are pricing the prelims like this.

Another thing that is pissing me off is the NBA playoffs being on 9 different channels and streaming services. The games are on Prime, Peacock, NBC, ABC, ESPN, and NBATV. It is impossible to follow where the games are. So I flip around the TV and if I can find one, great, if not... no basketball for me. It's just not worth the hassle. I'm a channel flipper.... this set up does not work for me at all.

I actually entered into the raffle for the KC group stage draw (Team USA was not a possibility)... I didn't win, but one of the directors of finance at my company did.

He's been cracking me up about it. He has every intention of going, but then he'll get spoonfed a story about how the ticket he paid $120 for could be flipped for $1,200 and he's like, "uhhhhh, what do I do!?!?"

Did you check the prices in the Prudential Center for this upcoming event? Absurd. That's where I used to go for all the shows for like $250-$300. $600+ for the same seats now.

Philly isn't quite as bad but it is still absurd. I'm waiting to see who's on that card but its gonna have to be a real banger to convince me.

My first two UFC events in person. I went to see Dillashaw/Cruz in Boston and then two weeks later saw Rumble/Bader in Newark. Both seats were floor seats, both around $100.

For the Rumble/Bader card, no one showed up in row 3 and the Newark staff let me sit in their seats. I saw Josh Barnett get ninja choked in front of me, so close I saw the sweat beaming down his head. I saw Rumble KO Bader and then climb the cage and stare in my face. It was hella crazy.

I was at that show! lol. Jon Jones vs Shogun was my first event ever there. I think that was the previous year. I think I've seen Jim Miller fight live like 6 times on these NJ cards. Shit... I even saw Dan Miller fight there.

Yep. It was like $300 for Merab/O'Malley last year. I went, had a blast. Skipping this year. Chimaev and Strickland are not worth $450, not in a million years. Kinda want to see the chance for Taira become the first Japanese UFC champ but not for $450.

I've been to like 20 UFC/Bellator/PFL shows. MSG, Barclays, Long Island, Newark, TD Gardens, Atlantic City.

Were you at the Barboza/Lee card in AC? I saw like 5 fights in the stands. Fucking idiots. Meanwhile I sat next to a couple of Muay Thai trainees who were hoping to catch Matt Serra so he could autograph one of their action figures.
