Although brought up in other threads, the Godfather of course deserves its own.
I found out the other day, very surprisingly, that the Godfather III actually received more critic acclaim than The Godfather II.
I think 3 was by far the worst. Not even close. I usually like the 1st or 2nd depending on which one I last saw.
Old Pacino in 3 was a bad Godfather
and the Vatican story arc was not very interesting imo.
And Joe Montanya is not a mobster.

Yeah, maybe. You gotta admit, though, he was one helluva quarterback.

Godfather 1 and 2 are classics. I can tell you Godfather 1 is one of the few 2 1/2 hour movies that I can watch from start to finish and have seen over a hundred times. Godfather 2 has some boring scenes but still great overall and a favourite.
Godfather 3 is a meh for me. I don't think it's as bad as some make it out to be and at the same time good as IMDB rates it or some people think it is. It's not bad or good.

I think 3's problem is its part of the Godfather series. I bet if it had been a stand-alone movie(which would be impossible with the backstory but just syaing...) it would have been considered a classic.
Little Known Godfather Fact:
Parts 1 and 2 have been selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry. Part 3 was not.
Also
Part 1 is slated as the 2nd best movie of all time according to AFI.
Personally the reason I tend to lean towards 2 is the backstory with Vito in Italy etc. I dig those scenes.

That's not true. Godfather 2 has a 98% on Rotten Tomatoes and Part III has a 66%. No one thinks Part III is better than Part II. No one.
I can't really decide which one I like better. Every time I watch Part I, I watch Part II immediately afterward. I might have to give the edge to II because I'm such a huge DeNiro fan.
And Montanya is a mobster. He's one of the most ruthless mobsters ever. He's Fat Tony.

I'm pretty sure that Godfather 1 & 2 are the only movie & sequel to have won academy awards for best picture.
Godfather 3 didn't - and lost to Dances with Wolves

I haven't seen them in so long. I lent them the trilogy to my neighboors forever ago and they still haven't watched them.
1 & 2 are amazing. I only watched 3 once, so I don't remember if it was just the completely out of character actions by Mikey that made me hate it, or if there was more.

could'nt choose between one and two but can say that three, although i understood where it was coming from, was ''premature'' with micheal's demise. seems like there could've been another installment in between him taking over and him dying.

Part 1 and Part 2 to me are great. part 1 is my favorite by far. Part 3 is misunderstood.

Godfather deuce is one of my most favorite films of all time. One of my favorite scenes, is when Michael confronts Fredo in Cuba on the eve of Batista's fall from power. Michael--"I know it was you Fredo...you broke my heart. You broke my heart."

As good as Pacino is, I think De Niro has more dynamic performances. The perfect Godfather film would be the one with both of them and Brando. Since it was never meant to be, 2 was my favorite. I don't buy into the forerunner of a series being the best theory. The OG showed the rise of the son to replace the father; the sequel had more plot twists and flashbacks of the Young Vito...
...plus, a dead hooker who was still breathing. Nothing like contemporary filmwork!
