I just saw this poll on the Junkie homepage about whether or not fans have the right to boo the fighters. I actually didn't even think there was a debate. I thought it was essentially 100% agreed upon that us fans can boo whoever we want, whenever we want. Is there really any opposition to this thought?
I mean, I can see why people would get upset when the crowd boos during every slow point in a fight (I think this happened in Chicago) but to say booing is just wrong is silly in my opinion. If you honestly think that people shouldn't have booed during Houston Alexander vs. Kimbo Slice then I question your sanity.

I think there is a fine line. You pay for your ticket, so you are entitled to express your dislike of what you are getting for the cash. But I have been at some events were people just seem to boo for the sake of doing it, and make themselves look stupid. Still their right to do it though.

Too many good fights get booed way too fast because they don't break out into a bar rool brawl.

If you pay for a ticket you can boo whenever and whoever the hell you want too. I'm not a fan of booing and it does happen to often. However if you pay for a ticket you can do whatever the f--- you want as long as you're not disrupting the show in anyway. Buy a ticket then you can boo, as long as you're not throwing s--- you're well well within you're rights as a guy who payed good money to be entertained.

I have zero problem with people booing. I have zero problem with the people who don't like it when people boo as well.
Booing is a great way to show displeasure in a fighters performance. This isn't some free street fight, people pay to watch this. Booing doesn't hurt people, i'd rather that than people throwing bottles.
and too be honest, screw the people who try to pass off the whole "you're not a real fan if you boo"....
i'll boo you!

Booing a crappy fight is all good as it usually stirs the fighters up a bit. Booing a fighter as they walk out is pretty stink, but I'd probably boo Frank Mir so I can't really talk...

I don't like booing and I really don't like people that boo during a fight, but its their right. They paid good money to see that fight, they are entitled to show their displeasure, although i would prefer if they came on message boards and talked s--- here instead lol

Showing displeasure in a fight for lack of action is one thing, ruining the event for the people around you who paid equally good money is another.

I think the question that needs to be asked is do people complain about booing in the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, Boxing etc.? You can't have separate rules for different sporting events. Is booing unwarrented sometimes? Absolutely. But, that's just the way it is. You either deal with it or you don't. It's not going to change.

I don't think anyone should boo fighters. It is lame and disrespectful to people risking serious injury for your entertainment. If you want to boo, go watch pro wrestling.
One of the problems is that you only need a small amount of people to boo in a domed arena to make it sound like the whole arena is booing.
Seems like the Vegas crowds boo the most and usually don't arrive till the 6th fight. Maybe it is b/c of all the comped tickets.

Depending on whats going on in the cage, you might be correct. But on the flip side its lame and disrespectful by fighters to risk serious boredom to fans who have paid out a huge chunk of their disposable income to be there. They are not sports teams out there to win at any cost, they are there to entertain me. If I go see Slavia Prague play football then I do not care how they get the win, as long as they get it. 90 minutes of rubbish game, then an injury time goal by cheating - thats perfect. If I go to an average mma event, there is probably only 1-2 fights where I really care who wins - the others I just want to see great fights.

I think that is a good assumption. Only bother taking their seats for the main card, then don't understand what they are looking at.

Can't have seperate rules for different sporting events? Golf, tennis, swimming, diving, when was the last time you heard continuous booing while watching those sports?

I'm not a fan of booing.
If you appreciate the sport and what the fighters go through you wouldn't boo and if it was you in the cage you wouldn't want people booing you.
maybe an exception is something like AS v leites where neither fighter came to fight really.
on a side note i dont know why people always hate on fighters like evans and bisping when they seem like nice guys.
(i understand bisping being unpopular with americans cos he is english)

This is basically how I feel. Booing someone who has set themself up as a heel (Lesnar) or who makes excuses after a fight (Tito, Sylvia, etc.) is one thing. But booing just because a fight goes to the ground or isn't a constant toe-to-toe slugfest is childish and stupid. And no, I'm not exaggerating, I've been to enough live events and seen enough California events on TV to know that's exactly what happens far to often. A rare case like the Starnes or Alexander fights might warrant some boos, but basically 99% of the time those who boo a MMA fight are people who got lost on their way to Monday Night Raw.
But to the OP's specific question, do they have a "right" to do it, of course. But they also have a right to look like clueless idiots while doing it.
