I daily-carry a Kahr 9mm loaded with hollow points. I have a few other guns around but I'm not what you would call a massive enthusiast or sportsman. I have a Beretta semi-auto 12 gauge that I take on a pheasant hunt and/or trap maybe about once a year. I have my Dad's old WWII/Korea-era M1 Garand, but I never got around to getting the thing looked over to ensure it's OK to shoot (I'm sure it is), plus not a lot of options to shoot something like that around here (the 'burbs). Other than that, a stray assortment of some .22 rimfire rifles/pistols, a 4" S&W .38 and whatnot that I've picked up over the years. I need to get back in the habit of going to the range more often, but most of the guys I used to do that sort of thing with have moved away.

Not a bad idea to have the M1 checked out before you go plinking, if you ever do.
My Dad was obsessed with getting an actual WW2 M1, he finally did, took it to the range in his excitement, and found that every round he fired ejected the clip somehow.
I guess it was wear and tear on the mechanism and the recoil from each shot would make it go *ping* and pop out. Pretty funny in the moment, but when he took it to an armored the guy told him that the old M1s should always have a once over because there can be more serious failures.
His current obsession is Henry repeaters now, Lord knows why.

I went through a good amount of carry guns before I settled on an HK P30sk. In this moment, it is riding in a Hidden Hybrid holster and loaded with 147gr HSTs. As I live in Alaska, my carry pistol will change to a Glock 20 for the woods (which was my backyard just up until a couple weeks ago).
My grandfather, in a move that will annoy me for the rest of my life, traded his service M1 for a Winchester 1894 in .30-.30. I still have that .30-.30, but I would trade a minor appendage to have his service rifle instead. My cousin got an Arisaka rifle he liberated from a fallen Japanese soldier.

Henry rifles are fantastic if you don't mind the price. A Winchester or Marlin will do anything a Henry can do, but not with as much class.

In what is probably the most morbid thing my father has ever made me do, about two years ago my dad had my brother and I over for what was supposedly just a family dinner. In reality, he wanted us over there so he could hold a "Who Gets What When I Die" draft for all of his guns.
It wouldn't have been so bad, except he kept saying s--- like "are you sure THATS the gun you want to remember me when I'm DEAD" and things like that. Dude wanted us to pick, and then set about berating us for our choices. Anyways, I get the M1 eventually. First round pick, and one of the few he was happy with lol.
I'm not a huge gun nut, but I've got a few around.
I fancy function and value over fanboyism.
Hate Glocks, but their undocumented twin the FMK 9C1-G2, has NEVER let me down. Plus, they're made down the road. And a great deal at a sub $300 price point. Probably WAY less outside of Commifornia.
I got the standard assortment of goods. A .22 pistol for possums, et. al. that try to get my chickens. Your standard SnW MnP 15 Sport II. I got Pops (RIP) old pheasant Mossberg and Teddy Ballgame .22 rifle.
A few others laying around.
I don't shoot very often anymore.
Usually if I go to the in laws.
Oh, and I'll probably get s--- for this, but I can take the *** end off a gnat with my HiPoint 9mm carbine. And then use it to club a bear and prop up the KIA to change a flat!

I absolutely despised Glocks back in the day. Then it was what I was required to carry contracting, and I ended up loving them. As someone with fairly big hands, it is a little cramped, but I love their reliability, versatility, and ease of modifications. Like you, I value function over everything.
What I got in the safe:
-Glock 30, (carry gun when I do)
-Glock 19, modified (other carry gun)
Ruger SP 10, .357 snub nose (car door gun, anyone tries to carjack me, just press to the door and blammo)
-AK-47 with folding stock (for my potential use cases, it just makes more sense than an AR-15)
-AR-15 ( 'murica!)
- Mossberg 500 with a pistol grip (home defense)
- old *** scoped Lee Enfield deer rifle I inherited from my stepdad.

RPNB makes a great single pistol, biometric, bed side safe. Not the most secure, but keeps the kids out and allows for QUICK access.

I've always been a fan of the Glock platform except for my first carry gun. I bought a Gen 3 G19 about 15 years ago and I got lucky enough to receive the only unreliable Glock I've ever seen in person. Stovepipes every mag. I sold it for a Sig M11-A1, but I've always meant to replace that G19.
Hi Point carbines are ugly as s---, but they f---ing work. I've never owned one, but I've never heard of a bad one. I think Hi Point makes a 10mm carbine now that I am actually vaguely interested in for no good practical reasons.

At some point, remind me to tell you the story of how I got my second write up contracting. It involves a pistol qual day, a full auto sear for a G19, and a very humorless and angry range master.

You will probably like the Gen 5s. They took out the finger grooves which bothered some people.
I had to downsize my collection when I moved to Alaska, but the core of my collection that came up with me was:
HK P30sk (9mm)
Sig Sauer M11-A1 (9mm)
Glock 20 (10mm)
FN9c (9mm)
S&W 642 (.38)
Ruger LCR (.357)
S&W AR15
Mossberg 500
Winchester 1894 (.30-.30)
I'm rebuilding the safe collection for Alaska. A .30-06 rifle is next, and a Ruger Redhawk in .44 magnum will follow.
I hope you load that SP101 with .38s. A .357 going off in a car will permanently alter your hearing.

Nope. .357 hollow points.
Bud, if I'm pulling that, the least of my concerns is my hearing at that point. The plan is to make a huge racket and turn a large chunk of the door into flying metal. Someone trying to get in will either get hit in the shitstorm or scatter.
I used to bang an audiologist, she can get me a deal on hearing aids.

Yeah, directly after my Jarhead days I went to Afghanistan as private military. Paid great, but JESUS it's a miserable life. Hated every minute of it tbh.
Not in a state that makes carrying easy, did fire at a gunrange in Pennsylvania once. Shot a Glock 17 and a Beowulf AR-15 50 Cal. My dad somehow ended up with a brass in his coat pocket and he just dropped it in the hotel lobby when we got back. Must have confused the f--- out of the maid staff.
I would like to get a sexier arsenal, but for the moment I've got a Sig Sauer P365
I should really get to the range more often, but ammo is so eff'ing expensive these days.
Couple of local buddies and I are getting our CCL's later this summer (looking around July/August). I live in Illinois and they make everything 900x harder than it needs to be.
I should add that I live in a pretty small condo, so space is the biggest issue now (used to be my kid, but she's old enough to understand guns now). Easier to get the wife on board with a small safe and putting it in a corner of a closet than a large gun safe that is going to take up space we don't have.
