Didn't Magnus quit serious competitive chess for a couple of years over jeans and being bored? He's basically done it all and doesn't have any challenges left. He'd run the table for years to come if he cared for it. It's Magnus.

He quit defending his title and barely plays over the board (he actually "won" the jeans battle, they changed the rules afterwards). Yeah he doesn't do what he's "supposed to do for legacy"
 
Throwing some random here, my first favorite sumo wrestler Tochinoshin with arguably his Magnum Opus, sonning a fucking yokozuna on national television.

One way to look at chess is that it's a game with three parts, opening (first moves, getting the non-pawn pieces active and in position), middle (trading the non-queen pieces and chipping away at the board), and endgame (after the queens get traded or both guys are down to just pawns and a couple non-pawns). Magnus is the undisputed GOAT of the end game, and would pull wins out of his ass that normally only computers would find. Unlike Hans Niemann, who may or may not have put anal beads in his ass so a friend with a computer would let those beads manifest into wins, that would be then pulled out of his ass.

Nah, in grand sumo, there are 6 tournaments (called bashos) a year (every two months, the May one ended last week). Everyone fights 15 times, once a day. The matches are determined by a scheduling committee of the stable coaches, who vote and haggle and negotiate the card every day for 15 days. They have set formulas for scheduling that deviate when needed (such as you have a low ranked guy going on a tear and needing to face stiffer higher ranked competition). At the end of day 15, whoever has the most wins is crowned tourney champion. If multiple rikishi are tied at the end of day 15, they go into a playoff. If it's an even number, it becomes a knockout tournament of those in the playoff. If odd number, they draw straws and whoever wins two in a row is crowned champ.

Once a day? sounds to me like they can wrap things up and fight 15 times in 3 days lol

You'd be amazed how winded they can be at the end of the match. Because the matches can be so short and the results are immediate and punishing, these guys go in full throttle and train to be insanely explosive. Like 10 times the level of an NFL lineman. Sometimes they get into a stalemate and the match goes on for 30 seconds to a minute, then they are completely gassed out.

Usually the matches last a few seconds, but I'll go find a banger or two. Probably one with Ura pulling off a wild finishing move.
