Tony Ferguson calls out Amir Sadollah
LAS VEGAS – Not yet an hour after winning the biggest fight of his career, on the biggest stage, Tony Ferguson was ready to start thinking about who's next.
Ferguson knocked out Ramsey Nijem in the first round to win the Season 13 title of "The Ultimate Fighter." And with his new trophy in front of him, a few minutes after learning he would get an extra $40,000 for his Knockout of the Night, Ferguson said he wants to face TUF 7 champion Amir Sadollah.
"I saw Amir Sadollah, and I know that he was a pretty big guy from 'The Ultimate Fighter,'" Ferguson said at Saturday's post-fight press conference. "I think that would be a pretty good little start, right there."
But Ferguson, though just one fight into his UFC career, got the next part down pat when he said he would fight whomever the UFC wants.
"It doesn't matter who you put in front of me," Ferguson said. "I have great coaches and I'm going to be ready for any kind of fight. It took me a bit to get used to being in front of everybody, but I think I belong here – and I've got the trophy now to prove it."
Ferguson was part of Brock Lesnar's team on this season of TUF, and after the show finished taping, Lesnar invited Ferguson to his DeathClutch camp in Minnesota to train.
Ferguson said his plan was to utilize takedowns to control the pace of the fight – so even he may have been surprised with his knockout bomb.
"I knew he was expecting me to go for a takedown on him. That's what we were practicing," Ferguson said. "I've always had hands, but I kind of forgot that I was a wrestler. As you saw on my first fight in the house, I got taken down twice. I knew he was going to put a lot of pressure on me, so I took that inside. I had my takedowns to try and slow it down a little more. He caught me a couple times and I had to shake it off."
Nijem, too, was taken by surprise with the knockout punch.
"I was ready to take the fight wherever I needed to and felt very prepared for it," Nijem said. "That shot caught me completely off guard – I didn't see it coming. If he didn't land that, then who knows what would have happened. I was starting to rush things and I got myself in trouble, and it gave Tony the opportunity he needed to get the win."
Ferguson (11-2, 1-0 UFC) said despite the ability to make lightweight, and a willingness to do so, his preference would be to stay at welterweight.
"Lightweight is in my future," Ferguson said. "Wherever Dana wants me to fight. I wrestled in college at 165. But I'm comfortable where I'm at right now. I like food. I like eating. I could see myself going to lightweight, but I love welterweight."

I'll take Saddolah here.
Ferguson will be in the UFC for 4 more fights, max. And he's only getting that long because he's a TUF winner.

I took Sadollah. I think Ferguson needs alot of work to be competitive and I will admit I am a Sadollah fan. I like the way he always seems to pull out the win.

Sadollah will smash Ferguson. It's going to end from the clinch, a knee straight to Tonys chin.

I think he's done himself a disservice by calling someone of Sadollah's level out. He really needs octagon experience and to build himself up and learn what he needs to know to take on such competition. Instead, he challenges someone who could wipe him out and contribute to the end of his UFC career. Not what I'd call a smart move.

I think this fight would come down to a matter of Sadollah stopping Ferguson's takedowns. Striking, I think Amir has the advantage, not in power, but definitely in technique. Amir's a tough guy to put away too.

You do realize Amir's ENTIRE career is in the UFC right? I heard the local shows in wherever Tony is from have some serious UFC quality opponents though.
Wikipedia doesn't make you smart. Most of the time it makes you look like an *** when you blindly read stats. Look beyond the numbers bro.

Are you really going to argue quality of opponents? Really? I'm going to give you a chance to not try to start this argument, because in all honesty, it's very dumb.

That would still be a quick "name" for someone not named "Roy Nelson".

I have never seen Sadollah wreck anyone really, and when alot of people under-estimate ya is a good way to fuel a victory.

But who has Amir beaten? Damarques who barely has a winning record, Baroni who is way down the ladder and never was a top fighter, Sobata who is on a three fight losing streak or maybe Balckburn on a 4 fight losing streak. When he has fought worthy opponents he got his *** kicked by Hendricks and Kim. Ferguson has beaten Brock Jardine, a finisher with a win over Dave Terrel at least. I call this one for Ferguson via KO, but I gotta ask why did Ferguson not call out Hendricks, that would be a great fight I think. Are ya afraid to call out a fighter like Johny there Tony, who has wrestling that could beat the hell outta you and improved stand up, but like you is an undersized 170er, instead ya choose to call out the guy who lost to Johny.

So wait, the guy that Baroni couldn't KO is going to get KO'd by Ferguson? While we're on the topic of competition, I want you to show me these guys that Ferguson has fought. Literally the WORST guy that Sadollah has faced, is better than the BEST guy that Ferguson has faced. Ferguson lost twice to guys that you've never even heard of. At least Sadollah's losses are to legit guys. Sadollah gets the plum and knees Fergusons nose through his face.

I would take Ferguson mainly due to the power advantage he has over Amir. Sadollah is a great striker but he lacks power bigtime, I think Tony has good enough standup to trade with Amir and catch him in the process and K him TFO.
