I was looking at ESPN's Top 10 LW's and I could not understand why Aoki is still in the Top 10. What has he done lately that keeps him in the Top 10. Here's my Top 10.
1. Frankie Edgar
2. Gray Maynard
3. Gilbert Melendez
4. Eddie Alvarez (Just cause he's Bellator champ. If he wasn't he wouldn't make this list cause I think he would be middle of the pack in the UFC)
5. Clay Guida
6. Melvin Guillard
7. Ben Henderson
8. Jim Miller
9. Anthony Pettis
10. Dennis Siver

Uh? What has Alvarez done that makes you believe he could beat Aoki again? He hasn't changed anything in his game and more importantly what has Eddie Alvarez done lately to give him such a high ranking?
That's what I can't stand the most. People like to bash on Aoki because he "isn't facing top tier competition", yet Eddie gets all this respect for beating fighters such as Josh Neer and Roger Huerta (who was coming off a loss). He has not faced tougher competition then Aoki! Aoki has actually beaten top ten fighters since DESTROYING Alvarez.
Let me get this through your head.
Eddie has not changed his game since he fought Aoki!
This guy got taken down and submitted within 90 seconds. This
wrestler
(which is his strongest suite) got
taken down and submitted
in 90 seconds.
Alvarez has not faced anyone remotely close to Tatsuya Kawajiri or Mizuto Hirota, whom Aoki destroyed. There's nothing that you could possibly see from Alvarez's recent fights that make you believe he has a chance against Aoki again, especially in the ring.
Furthermore, my top ten includes:
1) Gray Maynard
2) Frankie Edgar
3) Gilbert Melendez
4) Shinya Aoki
5) Eddie Alvarez
6) Melvin Guillard
7) Clay Guida
8) Ben Henderson
9) Jim Miller
10) Tatsuya Kawajiri

Oh, trust me. I don't think this is talent-wise. But sometimes you do have to use MMAMath. For example, I can't put Alvarez ahead of Aoki because Aoki beat Alvarez. I can't put Henderson ahead of Guida because Guida > Pettis > Henderson.

A win over Jim Miller and Florian are pretty impressive but two wins over BJ are even more impressive. Figuring their last fight was a draw I could see them as being interchangable.

Eh that MMAmath doesnt work for me since Henderson looked MUCH better beating a guy ranked higher than Pettis. He also lost a very close decision to Pettis which I think could go either way if they faught again. Ill take Henderson over Guida

I think that Henderson would beat Guida too. Unfortunately, I don't have him ahead in the rankings because I believe in the MMAMath formula solely for rankings.

Winning 4 rounds against Gray and surviving the first round is far more impressive. He also beat Penn twice. He is a different fighter fro their first fight.
Edgar will completely tool Maynard this time and I am willing to bet on it.

I am seeing it a bit differently now. Funny what a few days can do. Anyway, here it is:
01. Frankie Edgar
02. Gray Maynard
03. Gilbert Melendez
04. Ben Henderson
05. Shinya Aoki
06. Eddie Alvarez
07. Jim Miller
08. Melvin Guillard
09. Clay Guida
10. Anthony Pettis
Based on his dominant performance over Jim Miller, ever-improving form, and his complete skill set all around, I decided to move Ben Henderson up from #6 to #4, and move down previous #4 Shinya Aoki to #5, and previous #5 Eddie Alvarez to #6. So it's a slight change in the rankings for me.
*Tatsuya Kawajiri would be in Anthony Pettis' #10 slot if it wasn't for his move down to the Featherweight Division.

I'd bump up Guillard past Aoki IMO. Guillard is a nightmare for Aoki stylistically.
