Good list,
Would be better if it were side by side w\ # of tickets sold to account for rising ticket prices and inflation.
How much money does a movie actually get from each movie ticket sold? do they just get $4 and the rest is the movie theaters profit? or is the margin much smaller?
I try to goto the 5:00 showing of movies because the theater I goto is $4.75 from 5-6pm, otherwise its $9.50 per ticket which is ok if the movie is just bad ***, but I find that most movies I see are not extremely bad ***.

Actually adjusted for inflation "Gone with the Wind" beats the pants off of everything and second place is Star Wars.

Well you have to think that back then there were not a lot of movies to watch and they were limited with choices. Plus they did not have things like movie piracy, cable television, Netflix, all things that may have distracted one from watching a movie back then.
AVATAR is BOSS. #1 movie of all time....till the sequel that is

It's just inflation you don't have to make an argument for it. They re-released Gone with the Wind a few times in theaters.

#1 doesn't have to do with quality. It's quantity, of course.
People go to the movies to get away from life.
If you look at the majority of the movies on the list, they fall under the categories of "fantastic" or "escapism".
If "Titanic" didn't have a huge ship-sinking scene, all the romantic crap in the world wouldn't have sold that many tickets.

Avatar was easily one of the stupidest abortions of a film I have seen in years. Under-developed walking cliches, predictable stupid dialogue and plot, character design was done by 4th graders.
Idiot 1: Hey guys, how are we to design this alien panther?
Idiot 2: Well, real panthers have 4 legs, so let's give this one 6
Idiot 1: Holy f---! You're a f---ing genius! Wait...what if we give 6 legs to ALL the creatures that would have 4 on earth!!!
Idiot 2: O - M - G!!!! My mind equals blown. YOU'RE the genius!
Idiot 1: No, YOU'RE the genius!
Idiot 2: No, we're BOTH geniuses, let's go tell James and maybe he'll let us play with his Gameboy!

 I did not say it was my #1 of all time. Mine is split between the Matrix and Star Wars sagas, kind of hard for a stand alone movie to compete with a series. I was saying #1 of all time despite talks of inflation of ticket prices.
That being said I did enjoy it very much and was the best movie I've seen in a long time. If it was my #1, don't see how there'd be anything wrong with me. Called personal preference.

I read the list starting at the top.
#49 (Mamma Mia!) was the first movie where nothing fantastic occurs.
I'm assuming that's the case, since I never saw it.

It happened again! I read the words "mamma mia" just as some song on the radio sings them, right in sync with my brain......scary...happens so much.

Jesus Christ, outside of the LOTR movies, the top 10 is a wasteland of vapid shite.

388. You Don't Mess with the Zohan (2008) $200,818,837
This must lose one spot everytime a new movie comes out. I hope the fact that it made that much money doesn't lead them to believe that movie was any good at all.

It's one of the few movies coming out of Hollywood dealing with the Israeli/Palestinian conflict.

Watched Avatar recently, decent flick. I had no idea it was doing that well though which is about how much I care/keep up with pop culture.
I thought it was an interesting concept to tell the story of corporate greed and abject consumerism but is mostly wasted with 15ft tall half naked blue people running around *shrug*. on a side note the chic helicopter pilot was smokin but I do love the latinas.
