The world is full of guys who can compete at Lightweight, and since this is in Brazil, everyone is gonna be fighting for those spots in the house or die trying.

According to Wiki, the average male weight in Brazil is 161 lbs. I'd wager that is probably close to the global weight average too. You're right - there is probably a disproportionate amount of available lightweights.
I guess that makes Pettis the P4P best fighter in the world'!!!!!!!!!! Well, it should at least be considered when figuring those things.

Most of the lightweights would drop to 145, and most of the bantams would go to 125. Always happens.

I remember recently hearing something like out of the 500+ fighters on the UFC about 100 are lightweights. I was like woah.

Yep. Most of the winners always drop cause on the show it's better to come into the house light so you don't have to deal with the weight cutting and manage. Then once you get into the UFC fight at your natural weight.

If they had a season where it was Featherweights and Light Heavyweights, I would honestly try to make 187 pounds in order to avoid having to cut to 146 each week (naturally I'm 160-165). If I can't make it on my own, I'll put on a weighted vest.
Higher risk of losing and getting hurt, absolutely yes, but I enjoy drinking water, and there's more bragging rights in fighting the bigger guys, let alone beating them.
