UFC 144 – Cheick Kongo draws Mark Hunt on February 25th in Saitama, Japan
In a bizarre twist MMABay.co.uk can reveal that French heavyweight striker, Cheick Kongo has been paired with former K-1 champion, Mark Hunt on the UFC 144 card set for February 25th at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.
It was thought earlier today that “Ultimate Fighter” season ten winner, Roy Nelson would be facing Kongo but a source close to Hunt’s camp told us just moments ago that he has received the nod. The promotion are said to be keen on capitalizing on the New Zealander’s popularity in the Far East.
Kongo is coming off a grinding three round decision win over Matt Mitrione at UFC 137 last month, putting him back in the mix as a top contender in the heavyweight division. Prior to that he’d scored a first round TKO win over Pat Barry.
As for Hunt, he turned around a miserable run of six straight losses when he pulled off back-to-back wins inside the octagon over Chris Tuchscherer and Ben Rothwell via knockout and unanimous decision respectively.

The only problem is the site this is comin from is known for puttin out false material. But UFC shut down the Nelson rumor so I'm thinkin this is the fight they made unless they went with Struve

Hunt via KO. Horrible match for Kongo. In fact, this is a huge step down in competiton if you ask me. I mean, I guess Kongo could win via decision, but I don't see Kongo being able to hold Hunt down.

Step down for who? Kongo? I say it's a step up from Mitrione as far as striking and experience are concerned.

It counts... sure, but sytles make fights also, and Joe Silva know thats I'm sure if he really does make this match up. Either way, I hope it happens cause I think Hunt will make Kongo FIGHT.
