We've seen it before, the main stream peering over at MMA here and there, going crazy over some of the bigger events from time to time. But after Nate vs Conor 2... we are now beyond the event horizon. MMA is main stream.
The FOX deal, Ronda Rousey, the $4Billion sale, were all contributors, but UFC 202, Diaz/McGregor 2 might be that final stamp on the matter.

Colin Cowherd, one of, if not the most hyperbolic sports media out there. Totally changed his tune once he left Bristol for FS...dudes a hypocrite to the nth degree. Used to DOG MMA, now hes MR UFC now he's with FS

@CD816
Colin is a 'statement maker' sort of a guy. But it's not just him and that particular clip, the main stream sports world is finally, decidedly, into MMA.
This rematch, this rivalry, marks that moment for me.

This is how the media builds something up, so it can innocently destroy it later on.
And for the record, this dirty motherf---er never saw a Luther Vandross show outside of a old Jay Leno episode. Just like he doesn't give a s--- about MMA. I hate this guy more than I hate Ariel.

I can't stand listening to mainstream sports guys talk MMA. It makes me want to throw my radio off a cliff. I can't tell you some of the moronic conversations I've heard on shows like Mike and Mike after someone like Ronda fights. They watch one fight in 10 years, a f---ing Ronda fight, and they use that to debate the viability of the sport and spending $60 on a PPV.
If MMA didn't get a single second of ESPN air time I would be a happy man.

Mike and Mike are still on the radio? I hated them talking College Football, in particular. But MMA getting more coverage only makes the sport better (eventually).
They're still not up on game, they don't know quite what they're talking about all the time, but ESPN First Take is alright.

Leading up to UFC 202...
Mexican boxer Canelo Alvarez wore a "I'm not surprised..." T-shirt this week supporting
Nate Diaz
, who faces
Conor McGregor
at UFC 202 Saturday in an anticipated rematch.

93% of people don't know who Canelo Alvarez is. He's less known then elite MMA fighters I'd say.

The issue that Diaz isn't seeing is that none of this was about him. The MMA community wanted to see what McGregor had after that big loss.
I'm guessing that most people are content with out seeing the Diaz/Mac 3.
Put them both on the same card, give Diaz some other super fight simply for signing on for the rematch. Give Mac a 145 pound title fight.
A definitive win or loss in the 3rd fight, really would do nothing for the fans at this point.

Typically all we see are MMA guys wearing Mike Tyson or Muhammad Ali t-shirts...
The fact that one of the biggest stars in Boxing is throwing on a Nate Diaz "I'm not surprised" t-shirt... That the Boxing world is throwing shine on MMA...
Just
another
bridge crossed.
Its a small thing, but telling.

I don't follow mma news because I hate listening to people talk about sports........i would rather read or skim articles.
Also I do not think Connor has made it mainstream...........this started with Brock and and hell even maybe with Tito and rampage. Every so often when a guy gets some star power the same media outlets take the extra time and starts talking about mma again.

The stamp on it was the Fox deal... Shorty followed by NBC sports and WSOF. Single fighter's have bridged a gap, but MMA has been over that for a while now. Big stars will always come and go.
