As intetesting as some of the stats garnered from this may be...how about the UFC working towards getting all athletic commissions to adopt the 2017 rules? Or better, more consistant judging? Consistent use of replay? Idk...things that could actually be used to improve the sport?
What do you guys think? Are robot gloves something we need before any of the things I listed?
What happens when the gloves become self aware and Skynet is controlling the outcomes of fights? What then?

Interesting. Kind of a natural and unfortunate progression I think. Stats stats and more stats. That is what all sports are moving to. It gives more 'credibility' to people who think they know more about the sport, who can now cite these stats and tell you how good or bad someone is. Kind of like all the cybermetric losers in baseball. They drive me nuts. These stats also feed and fuel secondary industries like video games and websites.
I think these kinds of stats are slightly less useful in MMA though because it is not a team sport where teams are evaluating their personnel based on a calculator. On the other hand, it will be helpful to the fighters and camps who might find area's they need to improve upon, especially in comparison to their competition.
Interesting idea. I think the data could be useful for fighters but I hope the UFC and analysts don't start shoving it down our throats like other sports. Because MMA is NOT about stats. I think we all know Ngannou punches really f---ing hard and Cruz is really fast and covers a ton of ground without a number to quantify it.

I don't think any of those things you mention are in their control.

Did you read the article? The UFC Co owner is behind the company creating the glove sensors. That's what the ufc is concerned about. Glove sensors.
I didn't say the UFC controls the things I mentioned, but they do have the ability and resources to work with the commission to improve said problems/issues.

Yes the glove sensors have nothing to do with commission process and procedure though. Commissions will need to sort out their own shitty rules, judging and reffing, it's not the UFCs place. Their place is fan experience.

Oh so the UFC doesn't work with athletic commissions to improve the sport in any way?
The gloves sensors arent important. Improving judging/having UNILATERAL rules is.
It's almost 2018 and most of the ACs haven't adopted the 2017 rules. The UFC absolutely has the influence to change that

They've lobbied for years, waste of resources imo. ACs do their own thing. Maybe it's time other orgs step up too.

I def agree that other organizations could/should step up. As far as wasting resources, spending money to improve the sport is never a bad thing. Even if it takes years

Except Sabremetrics has proven to work when also used along solid talent scouting and development......and the Boston Red Sox's payroll....

Payroll matters. They did pretty well for multiple years considering.
MLB is a f---ing joke where championships are far more often bought rather than earned...like every single Yankees win since the 90s.

That was my point.... sabermetrics will get you a first round playoff beatdown. Awesome. In MLB it is all about $$. Plus the starts are more useful in a team environment when you are deciding who to sign and how much to spend on them. You can do an apples-to-apples analysis. Not the same scenario in MMA so even less useful from that perspective.
And regarding the Yankees, the first couple of rings weren't bought. The big time buying didn't start until Clemens/Giambi/A-Rod came along starting in '99 I think. Then it was all cash all the time.
