UFC 328: Chimaev vs. Strickland | Newark

Saying Weidman is an all time great is fucking absurd
Is he not?

1. Knocked out (at the time) the greatest, who hadn't lost in over 10 years.
2. Won the rematch (lucky)
3. Defended against Machida and Belfort (both heavily roided) after beating silva twice.
4. Had the 2nd most middleweight title defenses after silva, until Adesanya showed.

Idk man, maybe they should say "All time great Middleweight?" I think that makes more sense.

Losing 8/11 is not "Hall of Fame" worthy.

Weidman's body of work is incredible. Who cares if he fought past his prime a few years to grind some checks and maybe make a comeback? This isn't baseball. We aren't tallying up negative WAR stats.

His peak was incredible. A human wrecking ball that put Serra-Longo and NY MMA on the map.

I was at the Nassau Coliseum when he fought Gastelum. I've been to 20+ MMA cards. I've been to McGregor/Alvarez and GSP/Bisping and Pereira/Adesanya and many other legendary fights. I sat floor seat for that card and got into a shouting match with Dennis Bermudez's training partner during the Elkins/Bermudez fight. That pop he got when Tom Petty played and he walked out in Long Island, a fucking earthquake went out in the arena. Felt vibrations in my chest.
