UFC 328: Chimaev vs. Strickland | Newark

so not exactly how i wanted sean to win but still glad he did. people talking about how classy chimaev was for putting the belt on sean, but i feel like a lot of that slass was washed away with him storming out of the cage and taking his gloves off, throwing them into the crowd like a child pouting. also find it kind of telling that i have seen post fight that chimaev is wanting to go to lhw after the controversy of his weigh ins.

I feel like this is all in your head.

Minus Khuntzack's desire to move up. Which he's been talking about for a couple years

Sean 2, 3, 5

Watched it very carefully with no distractions.
Your distraction is your home country. I don't like either guy and I didn't have a country to back. Khamzat won the striking in the 3rd as per the judging criteria update August 2025: "
A judge shall assess if a fighter damages their opponent significantly in the round, even
though they may not have dominated the action. Damage includes visible evidence such as swelling
and lacerations. Damage shall also be assessed when a fighter’s actions, using striking and/or
grappling, lead to a diminishing of their opponent’s energy, confidence, abilities and spirit. All of these
come as a direct result of damage. When a fighter is damaged by strikes, by lack of control and/or
ability, this can create defining moments in the round and shall be assessed with great value."

Khamzat bloodied Strickland and turned the momentum through his damage.

Disagree. That was a clear Sean round to me. I did not see "significant damage" to Sean.

E's not backing a country, he doesn't even like Sean. I'd be careful saying that stuff and being dismissive before you kick off a fight. I also saw the third for Sean but it was close. You're overly discounting Seans jab work.

Those were not "do nothing" jabs, they turned Borz's face into a Picasso painting all night long. Borz had the strikes that looked bigger in the round, but also had the cumulative damage and swelling from getting plinked almost non-stopped the entire round. That was Sean's biggest work rate round, he outlanded Borz by a sizeable margin, and did clear damage as written all over his face.

I'm only busting chops. I think Sean did plenty of damage but just not enough in the 3rd to have taken that round. Don't really care, was never gonna be a real winner for me in that scrap.

I'll pivot to, Dana told the judges to give it to Strickland knowing Borz was moving up. That shouldn't be a controversial position at all

I'll rewatch it today for a second opinion and pay extra close attention to the third. It was an incredibly close fight.

I said it 30 seconds before the scores were announced, they're giving it to Sean so they can run a rematch of this. Which I wouldn't mind one bit

I thought it was close but not particularly fun tbh. Happy if they both move on, indifferent again if they face off. Might have to live thread a rematch in the pro wrestling thread though. Scuffles at the weigh in and practically making out after. I don't get the story. Maybe a royal rumble will tidy it up somewhat

Real question is:

Why are we not talking more about that Van fight? That was fuckin good

Hell yeah it was! Surprised Taira hadn't more tools in him though, but Van can scramble!!!

he also put him in energy conservation mode. Smesh was too worn out to shoot TDs, the energy cost of failure was too high. Sean forced the fight where he wanted it. Octagon control went to Sean
