A Fight Pass survey was released recently, toying with the idea of implementing a series of "legend" fights. Would you be interested in watching a UFC Fight Pass exclusive Masters division?
Rules for Eligibility
- Must be over the age of 38 years old
- Must be under the age of 50 years old
- Must have, at one point, competed in a premier level mixed martial arts organization (UFC, Strikeforce, PRIDE, etc.)
- Must be physically fit to compete as determined by a doctor and pass rigorous physical exam.
- Active UFC fighters who meet eligibility criteria could choose to compete in the regular or masters division.
Rules for Competition
- Modified exhibition rules: Two 4 minute rounds, with the possibility of a third round in the event of a tie after two rounds.
- PRIDE weight classes: Heavyweight (Over 209 Pounds), Middleweight (177-209 Pounds), Welterweight (144 - 177 Pounds), Lightweight (Below 144)
- Each division would have it's own UFC Masters Division Champion and Rankings

SACs would never agree to modified weight classes.

Yes. As long as they're medically cleared to fight.

So better to have them fight against guys much younger than them who are in their prime? That worked well for BJ and Vitor.

It doesn't need to be complex with a specific list. I'd simply support aging fighters fighting aging fighters.
Michael Bisping can be the inaugural champ!

'Would watch' and want to happen are two different things. Curiosity would definitely get the best of me if this were to happen.

I wouldn't mind the idea of what essential results in super fights. But throwing title belts into the mix would be stupid. Basically what amounts to single, enjoyable exhibition bouts between greats.

Here's a novel idea. Don't have aging fighters fight anyone. Then no one dies.
Not sure if you get it. But, somebody would DIE. Have your mom and dad explain death. It will blow your mind.

You are just ignoring reality. These fights are happening all the time.

I like super fights.
I mean, perhaps the words are stupid, but I like the idea of fights being meaningless in the context of a title bout, but still the focal point of an event.

You're ignoring the fact that there is currently no Master's Division and that the number of fights involving aging MMA fighters is a small percentage of the total bouts that are currently licensed.
Furthermore, you're forgetting that MMA promotions have worked hard to convince politicians and journalists that accidental deaths and head injuries are low in the sport. Three years of a Master's Division would be plenty of time to end that reputation.
Last but not least, the number of fights that would be scrapped/cancelled due to injuries would be ridiculously high. I'd wager 35-55% of all scheduled bouts would be cancelled due to training injuries. It's bound to happen when both fighters have miles and miles of training and bouts under their belts.
Everything about this concept is stupid. Might as well take money, throw it in a garbage bin and set it on fire.
